Service: Service was good. I was hopeful, as the wait-staff seemed for the most part professionally dressed (not all). It seemed that the waits were a bit on the long side - took some time to get our order. Took still more time to get our food - but I was anticipating that good food = reasonable wait time. Appetizer: We had the sampler appetizer platter. With the exception of the dumpling, they were all fried. The flavor was monotone, dominated by the lightly fried notes - The flavor of the fried offerings was monotone - then you would get a bite of cream cheese or some sort of mixture that was an attempt at sea-food'ish flavor. The dumpling was dominated by a sort of raw'ish flavor of the dumpling wrap portion and a disappointing bland interior. The dumpling had the texture of half raw dough blanched in hot water. Main: I had the Orange with Beef. Marked on the menu with a "spicy" icon. My wife had a Tempora style Chicken. Both were served with rice. One was described as steamed (white rice) and the other that I had was "fried" (not white). The portions were ample. My wife says she liked hers. My Orange Spicy Sauce was, well, not spicy at all. I got a hint of spice / heat now and then, but what I mostly tasted was a cloying sweetness - even the "orange" that sometimes came through was hidden by an intense sweetness with a hint of orange peel - almost a Marmalade without the Marmalade part - just the sugar. The beef was thinly sliced. I'm not sure of the cut (flank?) - I had trouble chewing half of it as it seemed to be a very lean and fairly tough cut - ended up spitting out the dry remains on the left over plate from the appetizer. The overall taste was dominated by very high levels of saltiness and very high levels of cloying sweetness. I kept looking for some level of heat / spice / flavor and was continually rebuffed by the cloying sweetness that was not balanced with any sort of theme or flavor. Attempts to mix in my fried rice to cut this was largely unsuccessful. I ended up not eating much of it and even refused the "take-home-box". My wife took hers home (the tempora style fried chicken). The Good: Service The Bad: Unbalanced ingredients and poor flavor choice The Ugly: Poor quality ingredients and lackluster imagination...

Read moreVery disappointing. Took my husband here for his birthday dinner this Saturday 11/10/18 at 8Pm. You’d think they had the A team working a busy weekend shift- but honestly it wasn’t even that busy. Had the worst service we’ve had in along time! Had to ask for water, plates, & silverware(basics come on & no need to ask for them) -very slow to get even those things. Waited for a bottle of sake for a very very long time. Most of our time spent was just sitting there waiting to catch the waiters attention. Sushi took forever to get. Ordered 3 rolls first- two of them tempura fried & were cold when they arrived so they obviously sat there long enough to cool a lot before getting to us. Waiter came to ask how the sushi was(a little late at that) so we told him the two fried rolls were quite cold & he didn’t even apologize or offer to have them remade or anything just basically ignored our answer & asked if we were ordering anymore rolls. Should have just got the check at that point . Ordered 2 more rolls. To be honest they were all overpriced and the fish content very skimpy. Mind you the rolls are high priced at 15-16$ each. The last roll we ordered was indeed warm like expected but at that point the restaurant had basically cleared out. We ordered in 3 separate waves & each time the rolls came we were never told which ones they are- a new occurrence in a supposedly great sushi joint. We eat a lot of sushi so were able to tell for ourselves but how are you supposed to know which ones you liked better if your waiter doesn’t let you know what’s on the plate when it arrives. I will say that he was nice. 115$ bill. Was very sad because I really wanted to treat my husband for his birthday & make it a special dining experience & was recommended to come here from friends at work. The previous 2 restaurants we attended here in town were Tokyo & Shogun. Got great service both places and the sushi they gave you was worth the price tag-no skimping. I left Wasabi 88 feeling pretty bummed out. We love sushi and don’t mind paying a lot for it but this felt like a rip off. Needless to say we won’t be back. The restaurant itself and decor was pretty cool but the service and food is what makes a place worth...
