Hands down the best cakes around! Delicious, beautiful, and (contrary to many reviews) very competitively priced. I first purchased a special order cake from them a few months ago for a baby shower I was hosting. I did their lemon cake in a vintage piping style. It was stunning, and everyone at the party asked where the cake was from. Just last month, I purchased a 16th birthday cake for my young cousin. It was very last minute notice, yet they still were able to accommodate me. The cake was beautiful, and yet again tasted amazing. I’ve also purchased some of their ready-to-go cakes. The shadow cake is particularly great! For context, before having kids I loved to bake and baked birthday cakes for myself, family, and friends. While I no longer have the time required to bake, I am VERY picky when it comes to purchasing baked goods, because if I am spending money on something it needs to be as good or better than what I would make myself as an amateur. I’ve tried so many bakeries from Greenwich to Westport and everything in between, and the quality of ingredients and final result of the other places I tried couldn’t come close to Black Forest. Finally, I’m very confused by the complaints about their pricing, because their pricing is VERY competitive. Their ready-to-go cakes are not much more than grocery store cakes despite being much higher quality, and their custom cakes are so inexpensive that I asked if they had given me the wrong number when I first ordered a cake from them. The special order cakes I have bought from Black Forest would have all cost at least 3x more at other bakeries. 100% recommend if you want beautiful and quality cakes. Note: my child messed up the frosting on the side of one of the pictured cakes trying to swipe a bite!

Definitely on the sweeter side of things, and pretty expensive as well (hence the knock on star - not sure if it's worth it imo). But I thought it was overall good! I liked the little fudge cookies and I enjoyed it with the hot chocolate that I got. The elephant ear wasn't as great I wanted it to be. However, the staff is very friendly and helpful in navigating the menu. Everything is made fresh in the kitchen in the back. And it's always great supporting a local bake shop here in Greenwich! I heard that the cakes the specialty (they better be special at the price they are charging! ~$50 for a small cake), so maybe there is an opportunity to check that out in the future!

Our family has been getting cakes here for over 20 years, and every celebration wouldn’t be the same without them. Our go-to is always the chocolate mousse—it’s absolutely delicious! I even worked here back in high school, and I can say firsthand that the kitchen and back area are spotless. The team is incredibly talented, attentive, and dedicated to their craft. I couldn’t recommend this place more—it’s truly the best!

Black Forest Pastry Shop did an amazing job with our wedding cake! We ordered a three-tiered carrot cake, and our guests loved it. It was absolutely delicious, and the decoration was beautiful: It can be hard to make a cake with buttercream icing look good, but the ruffled design looked exactly as described. I was also impressed by how easy the ordering process was, and how attentive the bakery was at following up with us to make sure they had all the details correct.

I should also give a shout out to this bakery's other pastries--we ordered a bunch of little treats for our rehearsal dinner, and honestly, they were even better than the cake. We'll definitely be stopping by for an encore the next time we're...

After my Connecticut-based father casually mentioned a Black Forest Cake, I wanted to surprise him with a cake for his birthday. I found this adorable German bakery during an internet search of Connecticut bakeries. Dan was kind, professional, and able to have a cake ready for pickup in 24 hours. My father was thrilled and said this bakery is the best in the state. FaceTiming me, he ate half the cake in one sitting while muttering the words “moist, spongy layers,” “delicious mousse filling,” and “this is the real deal” between bites. Thank you for helping me make my father’s birthday special from all the way out in Colorado. I will be sure to visit the bakery in person next time I’m in...
