We had a reservation last Friday night. Upon arrival we were told they didn’t have our reservation. The hostess raised our expectations by saying they would find a table. For the next 10 minutes hosts and hostesses came and went asking the same questions: what’s your name again? When did you make the reservation. The owner finally gave us the bad news. There was no table and they couldn’t find our reservation. He invited me to come back another night and offered me a drink on the house when we returned. I made another reservation for the following Tuesday night.
I called and confirmed the day of. The place was packed for a Tuesday night. We ordered drinks through the sommelier who I believe is the owner. These did not arrive for 30 minutes. Appetizers took forever after that. The food was impeccable and delicious but it was overshadowed by terrible service. One of our dishes did not arrive until just before we asked for the check and that’s only because we asked about it. For a Tuesday night, when people don’t have time for a 2.5 hour dinner, this new place was disappointing. Food...
Read moreWhen visiting my daughter, I always stop at this stylish yet down to earth Asian restaurant with full staff of sushi/sashimi artisans, carefully carving out the best sections of various sea and fresh water delicacies, elegantly served, absolutely fresh and appealing Japanese style. There is no where better in the Greenwich/ Old Greenwich areas for this type of repast. The atmosphere is like a $185 a plate NYC Leopardo of old, except bright with natural sunlight in daytime and Asian. Classic. Refined. Staff is well trained. Suggested they use different glasses for pitcher water vs. bottled water so the bus staff doesn't pour pitcher water into bottled water glasses. That was their sole fault in the last 3 years of about 5 visits per year. Menu is plentiful in choice and types, not condescending to the less initiated, while pleasing to the native or affectionado as well. Can't say too much about the quality and presentation of the courses as they unfold in a relaxed and unhurried manner. Go and enjoy. You will...
Read moreI went in there for dinner tonight- have had great w at their sister restaurant, Hinoki. The service here, however, was abysmal. I have a soy allergy - and yes, I realize it’s a risk as a sushi place, but I am always one to say tell me you can’t serve me, not poison me. We told the server and ordered food. Immediately he dismisses me and tells me it’s fine, proceeds to serve us shishito peppers - which I ate one of - that was covered in soy sauce. I asked him to check and he comes back to tell me “yeah if is just regular soy”. Basically shrugged - didn’t care, didn’t apologize, didn’t do anything. Still expected full tip, didn’t even take it off the bill! I am currently having a bad allergic reaction- thankfully I didn’t eat more or would end up in the hospital, but now I’ll be dealing with this for several days. Literally the worst experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant and the sushi quality does not make up for this negligence- no wonder...
