4.4 The Ginger Man is located right in the center of downtown Greenwich in the midst of all the retail stores. It's also close to the train station which has worked for us for over a decade to have an annual Christmas meal here with a family member who lives in Manhattan and rides up for our lunch. The atmosphere is a blend of casual and upscale/pub and restaurant. There is a long wooden bar with stools, some tables and booths around the bar with views of the busy street, and some private event rooms upstairs at the top of a long winding staircase. The best room is the main dining room that has a working fireplace in the colder months. During the Christmas season, a big festive wreath hangs over the mantle.
Arriving early, a table was available right next to the fire! It was a nice addition to see a few premium steak choices on the menu this time, but it was too early in the day.
An order of ribs was described as okay, with little or no dry rub for seasoning and a sweet sauce. A side of Mac and Cheese comes with this dish plus coleslaw. More a half rack in size. Not a true half or full rack, but The Ginger Man is not a barbecue house, so he was just happy to be able to have the choice of ribs for his lunch. A steak and cheese wrap with green pepper, onions, arugula and garlic aioli on a wheat pita was flavorful and tender. Fish and chips were crispy. The kind of fish was the standard cod. The hand cut fries were perfect. I always get the salmon which changes from time to time in how it's prepared, but it's always delicious and light served with a risotto.
This is a great spot to meet friends, coworkers or family, have a drink and something to eat while catching up on what's new. Service moves along and there is an extensive drink selection...
Read moreA lot of first time experiences. Ordering was a good idea on paper but the execution not so much. I ordered for delivery the Brussels sprout, Smokey Chicken Quesadilla, Bacon Jam Burger, and Turkey Chili. The Brussels sprout was the best item out of the bunch. The Smokey Chicken Quesadilla was... unique... it wasn't bad, but it wasn't a quesadilla - it was unlike any quesadilla I ever had before, and didn't come with salsa or sour cream. I compared what I received with the menu, and I do believe it was the correct item that was delivered. The Bacon Jam burger sounded good on paper but was the worst hamburger I've ever tried. The best of the burger was the top part of the English muffin with the Jam. Lastly, the turkey chili was more like a pasta fagioli or a not so soupy stew with way too many beans and carrots relative to the sauce. Also, the packaging for the chili was.. concerning. I'm not actually sure you could call it Chili. For the first time in my life, I had a few bites and threw the rest away. Also for the first time, the empty cartoons stunk up my apartment so bad, I had to dispose of them all quickly, and my apartment still smelled for nearly a full day after. The corn...
Read moreJust want to start this off with the service was awesome. Our waitress was checking on us but still letting us have conversations and only interrupting when necessary. She was wearing glasses and had auburn hair. There were people coming around offering water whenever our glasses were close to empty and that was very appreciated as we were sitting outside. Ambiance would have been 5 stars but we got pooped on by birds several times throughout the evening because the umbrellas that were covering us did not cover one little part of the table (where we got pooped on; hair & clothes). The food was good american food. Not sure it was worth the price but then again it’s on Greenwich Ave so high rent. I got the crab cake sandwich and thought the flavor was great but the outer part of the crab cake was warm, whereas the inside was completely cold. That was disappointing. But the fries were fresh which is appreciated. All in all, was good but not somewhere where I would go out of my way for. Was great for a solid...
