I love Thai food and have eaten it for decades around the country. I'm a retired chef, not a full blown expert on Thai cuisine, but here's my take. I've eaten at the location once and it was my 3rd experience of 6. all other orders were carry out. I wouldn't say I was disappointed the first time I ate here, but I didn't think it was good enough to spend the time writing a review telling somebody their food was mediocre, in my professional opinion. it's rude.
The second time was equally....ok. As I mentioned before, my 3rd visit was eaten on site. same quality (cheers to consistency!) but the garage door was open and I was with people I love. that was great!
the 4th time I tried to talk my wife out of spending money there, but I realized that mediocre food was better than a grumpy wife.
I'm skipping to the 6th and final meal I've consumed from Thai Me Up (also the name of a place in Pittsburgh for the last 22 years) my wife walked there, (the proximity is why it's been 6 times and not 2) to order carry out. she was asked the question, "how hot?" zero for her and 3 for me...ALWAYS THE SAME.
she said she was asked with a snicker if that's what she really wanted. (I didn't know this until I was mentioning how the food seemed spicier this time) she didn't get why the question was funny. I ate it, but then we both started taking about all the black burnt bits in both of our dishes. we're both classically trained chefs and have worked in the industry for decades. we agreed what we were looking at was sloppy work and now snarky customer service. the heat seemed intentional and quality didn't. I know better than most how hard this job is, but these failing systems are not making it any easier.
as it stands, when I want Thai, I'll go some other place but they won't have the funny name I like.
-edit-🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩 upon reading other reviews: a customer complained that they got the wrong order.... with peanuts, that they are allergic to.
Sean the owner responded with, "my bad" as part of the response where he told the customer that they should have done something about it. 🤦🏽♂️
my wife has food allergies and I suddenly feel grateful for the mediocre experience as opposed to...
Read moreThis place is phenomenal. The food is beyond amazing. Food is very well portioned for what you pay and the flavors are not overwhelming. I had the Pad Thai the first time I ordered from this place. It had well portioned and balanced ingredients. The only criticism I have is that the noodles are slightly overdone but even then, still so very delicious. I then ordered pick up a few days later so I can see the place and try their curry next. I ordered the curry but had to also get the Pad Thai again because I already craved the taste. The panang curry is such a soul filling meal. Every bite is full of an addictive flavor. I added potatoes because that is what I'm used to and they used sweet potatoes which made it even better. This place is definitely authentic in flavor and taste and may become one of my favorite Thai places to eat at all together. Thank you for the amazing food you put out and I'll be seeing you guys often! Highly...
Read moreEsteemed Culinary Connoisseurs,
It is with great pleasure that I pen this review to extol the virtues of the exquisite vegan dishes we had the privilege of savoring at this illustrious establishment. The Jackfruit, when harmoniously paired with the Pad See Ew, was nothing short of spectacular, evoking a symphony of flavors that danced upon the palate. The house-made sauce, with its perfect balance, complemented the dish to perfection.
Furthermore, the Crab Rangoon and Dumplings were delightful additions to our dining experience, each bite revealing the meticulous craftsmanship and culinary artistry of the kitchen.
Owners Sean and Best have undoubtedly excelled in curating an ambiance of kindness and hospitality, matched only by the superior quality of their ingredients.
Our anticipation is piqued for our next visit, where we eagerly await the Mango Sticky Rice and the Kao Soi Soup, both of which promise to be delectable...
