Nestled between a coin laundry and a Family Dollar in the heart of downtown Griffin, there is a thin building that often goes unnoticed. Though it’s in the center of town, 508 Taylor Street is hidden. This is because the parking lot is constantly full, blocking the view of the restaurant; the huddles of guests waiting to snag a table further disguise the building’s existence. However, those who have the pleasure of finding it will keep coming back, because Murphy’s serves the best breakfast in town.

When you enter the door, especially for the first time, you have to take it all in. The door makes a jingling noise as it slams back behind you. The aroma of freshly-brewed coffee and sizzling bacon makes your mouth water. The Hank Williams and Merle Haggard playing in the background is faint, but takes you back in time. Warm colors and framed photographs of the Murphy family line the walls, along with newspaper clippings and knick-knacks. The chatter of tables and screaming of orders behind the counter seems chaotic, until the owner’s daughter graciously welcomes you in and tells you to grab a seat – “If you can find one, sugar”. Once you shuffle through the closely-packed tables and settle into one of the many squeaky, vibrant, diner-styled chairs, it’s time to eat.

An elderly couple has run the restaurant for years, and they cook all of the food themselves. Working side-by-side on a large griddle, covered in pancake batter and grease, they smile at one another like they’ve just fallen in love. They’re closed on Sundays, for it’s the Lord’s Day. They don’t take debit cards, either. Those that sit along the bar pass the newspaper back and forth, and for the duration of their meal, strangers act as if they’re longtime friends. The menu is a simple page, with all of the traditional breakfast fixins’ one would expect from a Southern household – and everything is delicious.

Murphy’s is a beloved treasure of Griffin, a place that oozes simplicity and warmth. Whether you dine alone or with a group, you feel at home while you’re there, almost as if everyone in the building is one big family, passing plates across the table to one another. It embodies the very nature of Southern hospitality, and brings back the meaning and importance of breaking bread...

I think I’ve found where all the good chefs in Georgia went — Murphy’s Restaurant in Griffin, GA! This place is an absolute gem for breakfast and lunch (they close at 2 p.m.), and it captures everything you could want in a small-town dining experience.

If Anthony Bourdain were still with us, he would love it here — the food, the people, the atmosphere, and the pure authenticity. There’s a warm, old-fashioned, neighborly feel that makes you feel like you’ve been coming for years, even on your first visit. The staff are genuinely kind, attentive, and they make you feel like family.

We go so often now that we don’t even need a menu! Everything they serve is made with care and flavor. If you’ve never had a Torta, you’re missing an important part of life. Their tacos are heavenly, and the pancakes — I’m convinced — are the fluffiest on earth. Honestly, I’d have to list the entire menu to do them justice.

Murphy’s is the kind of place that reminds you why local...

"A Reevaluation Below"

A small mom & pop type restaurant with excellent food which at one time Did deserve 5 stars !! I have visited here each time I'm in Griffin... Loved the food especially the huevos rancheros !! Prices are Very reasonable and the service is great ! I Live Here Now And Have The Opportunity To Visit Whenever I Want so I try to make it in at least couple times a month !!! 😊

~ 10 days ago I visited here and ordered my favorite, huevos rancheros only this time I became very sick right after walking out the door.. I knew I wasn't going to make it back to my house so I drove to the closest nearby restroom, to where my aching stomach got a little relief before I exploded.. There was definitely something Wrong with one or more of the ingredients in my food giving me a quick dose of food poisoning or something just as bad.. I'll not eat at this restaurant again and I hope whatever caused me to get sick, gets fixed so it doesn't happen to...

Hands down one of the best breakfast spots in south Atlanta! The atmosphere has a little retro feel; however, don’t let that fool you. The food is absolutely fresh, made to order and amazing. I have been here more times than I can count and they are very consistent. They have several authentic Mexican dishes for the lunch crowd as well. The pancakes melt in my mouth. One of the the things that I noticed in one of my visits was that they were giving food to a few unhoused locals and this made me a die hard fan of this place. They are generally very busy and the vibe is very down home.

My first dining experience. This place was suggested to me by one of their older regulars. I ordered steak and eggs, Medium rare, home fries, cheese eggs. Got a well done steak, BOTH TIMES. The eggs were fluffy, home fries, meh 😑 no biggy.... Needless to say.... I'm not impressed... The one waitress that I have seen is not very waitressy🤷🏼‍♀️ she doesn't smile. And you don't get a ticket until you go to the register. Oh and keys not forget to mention the $7 glass of 🙄😱 orange juice I'm not gonna recommend. But if you like bland food, I would come here🤷🏼‍♀️

Wanted to try this place out for a while. Parking is a premium since the restaurant in a small shopping center/laundromat (2.5). Murphy’s has a small town diner feel which adds to overall character of the spot. The food was AMAZING. I got the steak poblano omelet and my wife got the chilaquiles. Overall presentation was (5). Taste (5) our tastebuds are still doing the happy dance. Service (3) the server didn’t really check on us maybe because of the time we went 🤔. Would recommend as a good breakfast/brunch.
