My wife and friends were looking forward to trying out the Old Pony and to say we were disappointed is an understatement! Starting out with service: our waiter was terrible, although he seemed to be pretty good with his obvious buddy's at the table in the corner where he would go check on every 6 to 1 to our table - that could be because he wanted more of their onion rings (which he would eat one every time he checked in) while discussing after work plans. When he did finally come to our table, he made it obvious he wasn't thrilled to be there and his personality was a huge downer.
We had 2 rounds of Martini's and the first round came out ok, although you would think a Martini bar would server our Martini's in Martini glasses?? Well, the table next to us got Martini glasses so maybe it was us once again? We ordered a 2nd round of Martini's, which took about 20 minutes to get, and half got dinky I - guess what you could call Martini glasses - the rest once again just regular bourbon style glasses. Three people at the bar, and the table next to us got Martini glasses again so ...? Maybe harping on it but a Martini bar should server Martini's in Martini glasses - sorry.
The place was only 1/2 full so I can't even blame it on being super busy!?
Then lastly comes the bill, where he never mentioned an auto 20% gratuity?? I am a very generous tipper but this time thought I left a 10% - which my family and friends said was too much! (one of the worse tips I have left in the past 5 years!) When I got home I realized I in fact gave him 30% (the auto 20% and my planned 10%)
Will never go back again, so many better options out there in Detroit, Royal Oak - where the waiter doesn't ignore you, actually takes care of you and pleasant to be around, not to mention servers Martini's in Martini glasses! My 2 cents - stay far away...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for years. Always consistent with specials and good pricing even after the pandemic. I like it because it’s a true neighborhood bar. The staff knows me and my kids and have always gone above and beyond to make sure we are sat asap even when they are busy. My daughter doesn’t even have to ask for her Shirley temple with 3 cherries anymore. The burgers are where it’s at. Do yourself a favor and get the garlic dill fries with garlic aioli on the side. My son always gets a grilled cheese with bacon and egg and my husband is into the Nashville hot chicken sandwich.
Would like to point out that after reading other reviews I came across a pretty nasty one that mentioned the sign not being flipped around to say closed due to the staff not having “brains or decency” to flip the sign. I chatted with our waitress about it and she pointed out that the sign does not actually flip around. It’s lit up when they are open and the hours are underneath the sign. So if you are unsure if they are open or not you can always look underneath the sign. Hope this helps anyone else that may...
Read moreI have been so disappointed in how I have treated at this restaurant the last 2 times I have tried to eat there in the past 3 weeks. Yesterday, June 17th around 5pm, I tried to eat outside at the only table available. The lady at the bar was so rude to me. She was LOUD, RUDE , DISMISSIVE and flat out HUMILIATED me by saying that I couldn't eat at the table and said that it would be 45 min before I could eat. She shut the whole prospect of eating there in a rude way. She basically told me that I wouldn't be served there. People in the restaurant was staring at me as if I had no right to expect to be served there. I was so humiliated and embarrassed. They have these long set of "rules" on paper on their door that is too long to read. I have never been to a restaurant that discourages people from eating there. I understand that Covid has adversely affected restaurants but you don't treat people that way. That was the second time she's been rude when I tried to get carry out. Her demeanor is totally unwarranted. Stressed or not, there is a better way to treat...
