Had a craving for some Indian food and found Tikka Shack and ordered a late dinner for pick-up on a Thursday at around 8. It's probably not the most authentic with their French fries and naan pizzas, but I wasn't mad at it. They had a discount on some of the pizzas, so we ordered a couple of those. We had:
-Paneer Makhani Pizza (spicy Malai sauce, thin sliced paneer, mozzarella, hot peppers, tomatoes, and dried methi leaves) - very good but also be careful with the jalapenos because some of them were very spicy! -Tandoori Chicken Pizza (Tikka sauce, fresh mozzarella, Tandoori chicken, red onions, fresh jalapenos, and cilantro) - I'm torn between which one I liked better because I really liked the tikka sauce here but I do also love paneer. Maybe they could do a mash up of these two -Chicken 65 (chicken stir-fried with chilis and curry leaves with a spicy red hot yogurt sauce) - the flavor was good but the chicken was a bit dry -Masala Fries (loaded fries doused with tikka masala, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, covered in sweet and spicy spices) - this sounds good in theory but since we did pick up, everything was soggy. If you're going to order this, see if you can get the sauce on the side. It did come with extra sauce though, which I appreciated - and we ended up dipping everything in that -Samosas (two crispy pastries stuff with potatoes, peas, and secret spices. Served with a tamarind + mint chutney) - these were huge! I loved the tamarind + mint chutney. We also ended up dipping everything in this sauce, so see if you can get extra of it
If you're looking for classic/authentic Indian food, this isn't it. But if you're looking for fun fusion Indian fast food, then this is a great option. Will definitely order again! They also have tacos, and I wouldn't mind a chicken tikka masala taco...
Read moreThis store recently opened in Hackensack. Looks amazing inside, wonderful dine-in space. I put in an order for pick up thru their app. Despite signing up with their promo, I couldn’t use my code during checkout, so that was a bummer to begin with.
Upon arrival, my order was ready in the pick up shelf. I didn’t have to wait for anyone, so that was good experience. Food wise, I liked the shrimp taco and tikka sauce. Both were very flavorful. The mango lassi from wrap meal was excellent too. But wrap meal itself was so disheartening. First they put mango salad at the bottom of the wrap, inside the same box. The salad soaked up the bread and the weight of the wrap beat up the salad leaves. The wrap was filled with a lot of cheese and chunks of flavorless chicken. The wrap itself was a thick bread. I was expecting it to be the thin wrap like kati rolls wrap. The lamb biryani had good quality but taste was mediocre.
The experience largely was underwhelming for me. Hope the restaurant fixes some of these flavor and packaging issues and does well...
Read moreI've had many different dishes here, the staff has been very friendly and welcoming so far, I've also met the owner once and as well a very pleasant man. The dishes are flavorful and well balanced: not too much rice, and a good amount of sauce to go with, perfect proportion of flavors (there isn't one flavor that just overwhelms the rest of the dish) and reasonable price. The juices/beverages are refreshing and barely sweetened, not riddled with sugar and chlorinated water like every other restaurant, a nice touch. The ice machine makes little ice cubes, a more pleasant experience there too. My personal favorite dish is the Butter Masala. I haven't come during rush hours but at all the times I have come service has always...
