Yesenia is an awesome amazing person and a great leasing manager. She gave us a virtual tour of the entire property at 22 Sussex and informed us of all the amenities that are offered at the property. Yesenia helped us every step of the way to choose a suitable rental apartment and she went above and beyond to exceed our expectations. Allison the property Manager is awesome as well, she was very prompt in getting back to us with any issues we had at the property and she would come personally to the apartment to follow up and check if the issues were resolved. David the maintenance engineer is super nice and friendly and he took care of all the maintenance issues we had in our apartment. I highly recommend 22 Sussex to live, the property has great amenities with a fully equipped fitness center, covered parking. and a great lobby to relax and entertain friends and family. The neighborhood is very safe to live, there is a courthouse nearby and within a few blocks from the building there is a police station, fire department and post office. There are plenty of shopping centers nearby like the Bergen Mall and the Riverside Mall. Also, within a few miles there is Target, Walmart, Home Depot and several grocery shops like Whole Foods, Farmers Market and Aldi. The Essex Street Train Station is within walking distance and the bus station is just just a few minutes away from the building. Review 1 year after living here. I've been renting in different apartments in NY and NJ for 5 years now, and this is the best apartment I've been in by far.

Building management is very fast, helpful, and kind. The building is new and very well maintained, and the rooms are spacious (My studio is nearly as big as my 3BR NY apartment). The lobby is also beautiful and gym is easy to access. There's also a cute rooftop. I appreciated that there was a trash chute on each floor, and that the cleaning crew came in every morning.

The location is also great. You're 5-10 minutes away from Costco, Walmart, H Mart, Giant Farmers Market, etc. with everything within reach, while still being in a safe location with well maintained streets. If you have a car, you can get to NYC in 25 minutes. And if you don't, there's an express bus right outside the building that takes you to NYC in 35 minutes.

Saw the other review about the meat grill place. Luckily I didn't have to worry about the meat smell permeating my room because I happened to get a room on the opposite end of the building. And so actually it was a plus for me, because that just meant I could go down and get good food whenever I wanted.

The good: Building was nice and staff was cool. Lounge was fun. Apartment was nice. Neighborhood is undergoing gentrification so provides a lot of flavor and value. In a good way. The neighborhood is extremely safe. If I stopped the review here then I would easily have left 4 or even 5 stars. Unfortunately:

The bad: If you’re thinking of living on the East side of 22 Sussex prepare to stay awake at least until 10pm every night. There is a restaurant right next door that plays music in an outdoor heated tent. The music is very very loud and the apartment windows are incredibly thin. Also this same restaurant smokes meats outside at all hours and the smoke smell permeates the apartment. If you enjoy the aroma of hand cut bacon and other assorted meats in your apartment and your clothing all the time then you will have no problems.

Be wary if you have asthma or other respiratory issues, though , as the smoke will (not may) aggravate those conditions. Also small pets will react badly to the smoke. Take my...
