Uncles' Local Diner — Restaurant in Hancock

Wanted to like this place because we loved Kaleva. Walked in at 11am and only 4 other tables had people. Waited 10 min. To have our order taken. Coffee cups were dirty. I ordered the sunny side combo scrambled, rye toast and bacon with a side of hash browns add onions. My father got the uncles omelet with hash browns add onion and green peppers. After 35 min only 2 take out orders and a plate full of fries had come out of the kitchen. We sat most of the time with empty cups as more people came in. There was food sitting on the pass for about five minutes. The waiter came to check on us and asked if we needed anything. My dad jokingly said food. The waiter said he would go check how long it would be. He came back with my plate which contained dark brown overcooked eggs, Black burned rye toast, Bacon, And on a smaller plate or black burned hash browns. I do not mind dark brown crunchy toast or hash browns but these were black/burned. I ordered the hash, and the server told me she thought it came with eggs. She asked how I’d like them, so I assumed they were included. I was surprised to find I’d been charged extra for eggs I never actually ordered, based solely on her assumption.

When I brought it up, I was told the price couldn’t be adjusted because the food had already been served—even though the miscommunication was on their end. I left feeling like I was the one paying for their mistake, which doesn’t leave the best impression.

The food was fine, but this kind of service, and the unwillingness to take responsibility for an error, makes me think twice about returning. I hope they don’t “accidentally” do this to all their customers.

I worked to help open Uncles as a cook, but was forced to flee Michigan because of a domestic violence threat that followed me from another state. The $500 in pay that the owners of this business have been withholding from me for nearly 3 weeks now, which should have been direct deposited in my account on May 17, would be a lifeline to me, and is money I am owed. Today, in some sort of sick taunt, they sent me an image of my check, which I could have deposited, except they did not sign it.
