Black Rock Pizza was recommend to us from a recent traveler. We had been craving pizza so decided to try. Beings we are not familiar with the area. It was a little bit difficult to determine what location to go to.We ended up at 75-5813 ALII DR #H, Coconut Grove, KAILUA-KONA location. I wanted to call and order in once we determine the location and when I called I got AI chatbot! I asked if there was free parking. Ai chat bot said yes there was. Had to mention I couldn't get a real person to order a pizza from. It was a little bit difficult to find from the highway tucked in a little shopping area. In the parking lot are signs for all paid parking by QR code and there is a parking attendant around checking everybody's car!! We left and found street parking and walked back. You can sit outside and be waited on or order from the counter to go. I can't remember if there were any tables inside to dine at. The employee at the counter was very kind and helpful. She gave me recommendations when I asked about various menus items. We ended up ordering a large pizza for 2 only because we wanted leftovers to take to the beach the following day. Honestly, a medium would've been perfect. We settled on the classic combo minus green peppers minus olives add fresh pineapple, and ham. The fresh pineapple just took it to another level!! As I was waiting for the pizza to be made, I was looking at the pictures of different items and I seen these chicken pesto bacon rolls, so I ordered as well. They were soooo good! It came with a pesto dipping sauce. Baked to perfection oozing with goodness! Something different, and really good! The pizza was really good too! We have not had a good tasting quality pizza in a long time. Everything from the crust to the sauce to the toppings. If you get the large I'd ask them to cut it into additional slices. The slices on the large were just a lil too big for our liking. 16in. So probably 8 large slices. If you're looking for a good pizza on the island, this is the place! However, I might just be going back just for those pizza roll type things. I can't get over how good they were. The big island balls looked really good too..Check out all the menu options. Reasonably priced dining/take-out. Get rid of the Ai chat bot that takes phone calls. They give bad information. And nobody wants to talk to one. They'd like to talk to a real person....
Read moreI grew up on NY pizza, so I am a serious and hard-to-please pie critic. Who knew that the BEST PIZZA I HAVE EVER HAD would be in Hawaii?! Two of us shared a Luau Polu salad because I have a hard time eating a meal without something green and healthy. Perfect size as a starter for 2 and delicious as is. Champagne vinaigrette was delish. We ordered a medium Hoi Boi pizza minus the jalapeños since they can sometimes ruin a meal for me. If you like heat...leave them on. First of all...the crust was perfection. Thin under the toppings but enough to hold it all together. The edge created the right amount of border, had a nice crunch and a bubbly, chewy center. Just the right amount of pull as you took a bite and ripped it away. The crust was a little dark, but I like it that way. The toppings were not mainland typical and they shouldn't be. I would have liked a little more pineapple but the sauce, pork and smoked mozzarella were just the right ratio. I don't know what Rock Sauce Drizzle is but I'm gonna figure it out and make it in Georgia. A little spicy, creamy and so yummy. We finished every last bite (2 slices for me, 4 for the hubby). Staff was nice and helpful and were forthcoming with the fact that they were busy with a take out order. We had to go in for a drink refill but it was no big deal. If you eat there, make sure to supply your license plate info to your server to get validated parking. Never planned to eat pizza in Hawaii but so...
Read moreThe food was good but when our server was grabbing plates off the table they dropped a knife right on my little sister and left about a four inch cut that went from the top of her collar bone down to her chest. The blond lady who dropped the knife was apologetic and did feel really bad. But the short brunette was very rude to us about the whole manner and not once did they check to see if the crying baby was okay or if there was anything they could to do to make the situation better. Even some napkins for the blood would have been better then no one caring. We tried having a civil conversation with the brunette lady who cashed us out but all she said was "well she said sorry, well she said sorry, there's nothing I can do about it" with so much attitude and rudeness like we where in the wrong and inconveniencing her by them cutting my little sister. This place was the low of our whole Hawaii trip. They do not care about you as a customer or as human being. I've never seen such disrespect from any one in the service industry and I own a bar my self. They are lucky we are calm and civil people because not many other people would let what happened to us slide. Just think about it, your little sibling, your daughter, or you son gets a knife dropped on them and they are cut bleeding and not a single person in the whole facility cared and it was 100%...
