Coffee Notes — Restaurant in Hawaii

FINALLY! A lovely cafe in downtown Hilo with cool ambiance, comfortable seating, great service and quality drinks. I had a flat white, which they didn’t have on the menu (please add it!) but they were able to accommodate. It was delicious. Then the owner/manager made a hot matcha latte by mistake and came over to our table offering it to us. I normally don’t order this but that was a generous offer so I took it. A bit strong and sweet at first, but also delicious…I took it home and added a tiny bit of milk and ice and it was extra yummy! It’s nice gestures like this that instill good feelings and customer loyalty, so I will definitely make this a regular spot and spread the word. I have pretty high standards when it comes to coffee shops and I had to try 3 things here before reviewing. First the matcha (strong and vibrant green and not too sweet- they sweeten it based on how you want it perfect), their chai (not powdered yuck! They brew a mixed tea blend) and their cappuccino ( always served in a small cup, strong with lots of foam it’s not a damn latte). They passed! On top of this the atmosphere is so classy and comfortable, they have a kids zone, and they work with 2 local bakeries for their food ( the best bread bakery Pane Nudo for their bread!). My coffee standards are super high and Kona Coffee & Tea is my top of the line, these guys aren’t there yet but still super yums and definitely BEST COFFEE SHOP ON THE EAST SIDE. I love Coffee Notes! My friend and I came here to study. We enjoyed brunch with coffee and tea. Everything exceeded expectations. The avocado toast with tomato on Ulu sourdough was the best I’ve had—the fresh sprouts were the perfect finishing touch. My latte was amazing, and my friend raved about the caffeine-free Passion Fruit Tango tea and bagel with lox.
