This review comes with the caveat that the restaurant is currently short-staffed and the experience may have been different if we dined when their kitchen was fully staffed. The staff that was present were all kind and super accommodating. The hostess explained the staffing shortage (especially in the kitchen) and you can see that all the staff members were helping with everything from hosting to taking orders to bringing out food to clearing tables. It was a team effort and they all worked well together. Our waiter was awesome. He gave recommendations for his favorite meals and even sent a dish back/told the kitchen not to serve our group something because it did not meet his standards. He had us order a new dish that would be cooked ASAP. Unfortunately, even with all his effort and it being made "right away" that dish arrived luke warm. Nearly all the food arrived luke-warm. Yes, we are in Hawaii and don't need piping hot things, but it was weird to eat food that was not hot. The food itself also wasn't the best. The fish was overcooked, the meats dry, the pesto was watered down and lacked flavor, the soups one-note, and micro-greens were the garnish for every dish, even ones where the greens would throw off the flavor profile completely. Most of our group did not finish their food, not due to quantity but to taste. We wanted to like the restaurant. We really liked the staff. We just aren't sure if coming back when they are better staffed in the kitchen would make a difference.

Went to dinner with the family. Had maybe a 20 minute wait, which is not bad for a Saturday night. Service was slow, grant it this is Hawaii, island time, but this was even slower! We ordered everything at once, drinks, an appetizer, and our main meal. We waited over 40 minutes to get our appetizer, calamari…it was cold…didn’t taste good either. Our server sent it back to be remade. More time has passed and we haven’t even gotten our food or appetizer. However, the two tables we passed to get to our table, which was empty when we passed by it, those tables received their food, and it looked like they were enjoying it. Our food finally arrives, but my daughter’s candied bacon sandwich was cold, my granddaughter’s kid’s cheeseburger was cold, and finally our appetizer arrived, but it was cold again! The manager finally came over, apologized and comp’d our appetizer, candied bacon sandwich and kid’s cheeseburger. But my granddaughter, who’s only 4, was still hungry and was only able to eat some of her fries. The manager sent her burger to be remade. It arrived about 15 minutes later, it looked good, felt hot, but the meat was raw! Finally got up to leave, showed the manager the raw kid’s cheeseburger, and she apologized and took even more off the bill. All we wanted was to have dinner, but left feeling still hungry. I would not recommend this place. If you have to wait for a table, the kitchen can’t keep up with the pace.

Being from the mainland and living in Hawaii now, I’ve noticed mainlanders complain about the most unnecessary things. We arrived a little past our reservation and was seated immediately. The 2 at the door were nothing but kind and smiles. We were seated in their patio on the lake right outside the door, beautiful scenery for me and my wife to enjoy our date night. Tita that served us… Outstanding customer service! We ordered drinks & appetizers first. Drinks were at our table in less than 15 minutes, appetizers..less than 20 minutes. I ordered the blackened shrimp pasta, delicious! My wife ordered her steak and it was cooked to her liking which is a plus because most restaurants cook them well done. Dinner was at the table in less than 45 minutes which was okay because we had drinks and appetizers to hold us over. The food was delicious and the service was even better! I recommend making a reservation for your party no matter what size. We had only 2 of us and I still made a reservation. I also recommend being seated in the patio on the lake; you will not be disappointed with the beautiful view. Tita that served us; mahalo for your awesome service, you deserve a raise! We’ll be coming back to Foster’s Kitchen just for the beautiful service we received.

Husband chose Foster’s for his 80th birthday dinner tonight. We waited a long time to be served water. Same wait person eventually returned to take drink and food order and was fairly friendly. We ordered appetizer, 3 meals, a dessert, 3 drinks plus a coffee all at the same time. My wine was brought by a different person. Then our food was brought in 2 trips by a different person and I told that server we still needed drinks. Our original wait person still hadn’t brought our 4 drinks but was waiting on tables all around us. Every time she greeted new tables, took orders, or brought peoples’ drinks or bills I assumed she’d then return with our drinks or at least turn around so I could signal her. That didn’t happen, so when she was bringing drinks to nearby people who came in after us I called out “ma’am, ma’am” until she looked over at us. I said “we still need drinks” and she asked what they were! She made several more trips to tables around us but no drinks to us. As she sauntered past after a few more times I waved and said “you-hoo” as she passed by and she said “yoo-hoo” back but kept going. I finally got her attention as she waited nearby tables and reminded her of our special needs son’s 2 drinks. After several more tables were waited on she eventually brought his 2 drinks, but still none for my husband. I flagged her down again asking for his iced tea and said it was his 80th birthday. She wished him happy birthday but still no tea. It took multiple trips past us before she delivered the tea. By then we had finished our meal and our son was ready for his pre-ordered dessert, but she never returned to see if we were ok or needed anything. We watched her bring the checks to several tables of people who came in after us and were already done. As she passed with her back to us I called out “cheesecake.” Without turning she snipped “it’s coming.” But she passed through multiple again times w/o it, taking new orders and checking out other people. As she turned away and walked past us yet again I said “cheesecake” to her back. Without turning she echoed back “stop yelling at me please” and kept going. We waited at least another 10 min with her coming and going nearby but no cheesecake. She finally brought it, sat it down in front of my husband instead of our son, and said nothing. I moved it to my son and she said nothing. Then we waited another long while for the bill, which she stood in silence after laying the machine on the table. She would have gotten a really good tip but with all the repeated reminders and rudeness we started deducting. My husband still generously gave her close to 15%, which is a lot more than I recommended. She asked our son “is it good?” then asked husband if we wanted a receipt. When he said “no” she took her machine, turned and walked away without a word. That was our 2nd and last time to go to Fosters Kitchen because of her ignoring us. We were there at least 2 hrs for a straight-forward meal. The...

Save your vacation and don't go here. Staff is unhelpful and blatantly lie to your face. Food is sub par. Half the time cant even get a Togo order right. Still waiting on a call back for a item I didn't receive from takeout from 5 months ago.

Adding on as they have replied

Let me start off with the last time I was there and the last time I'll ever go there. I placed a online order that said order would be ready at 8:36. I arrived at 8:40 no hostess outside, not a problem I get it can get busy. I wait a girl walks out looks at me smiles grabs something and walks inside. No we will be right with you or anything. Cool I'll keep waiting. The manager walks out and asks if I've been helped. I said no just picking up a order. He said he will be right back. He tells me it's going to be another 8 minutes. Okay no problem. Hot food is better than no food. The manager and another server were moving tables from inside to outside for about 15 min while I was waiting. No I'll check on your order or sorry for the delay. I see another server come out so I ask her if she'd check on the food since 15 min has passed. She comes back to tell me it's going to be a little longer. I asked her what the hold up was because the manager said 8 mins 18 mins ago now. She went to check and said the whole hold up was I chose a side salad and they couldn't decide what side to take away. The mashed potatoes or veggies. The food was sitting there getting cold all over a choice of side to remove. The manager never mentioned it, the girl didn't mention it until I asked. When I asked the manager he didnt apologize or say that won't ever happen again. He was completely rude and condescending. I get home to eat my first meal of the day and everything was ice cold. Steak cold and burnt, shrimp ice cold and the food was just thrown in a box like it was scraps.

This is why you deserve a 1 star and for no tourist to fall into this poorly ran establishment. I know getting employees out here is impossible, but maybe make sure your managers are actual manager material. If you need to pay more to get someone that can make sure you're operating at full potential, I know plenty of people that could...

Very disappointing after what started as a great opportunity. Called the day ahead to see what kind of wait we would entail if we showed up early and the kind hostess offered to squeeze us in as a reservation at 5PM the next day to ensure we had a table.

However upon arrival to the half empty restaurant we were told that the reservation was for outside only and we were seated in the empty patio and ignored for about 10 minutes before the hostess checked on us and moved us inside. Our server inside finally found us and seemed annoyed we were added to her tables. This attitude continued throughout the disappointing service.

The appetizer of whipped goat cheese bruschetta was noticeably lacking in goat cheese, with a small, sad, half grape tomato at either end of an overly hard crostini. The whole thing was draped in a too sweet balsamic reduction. Truly a disappointing dish.

We were getting a very unwelcome vibe from our server and decided to pivot from ordering a more elaborate meal to the assortment of flatbread pizzas. These were solid with a nice amount of toppings with good flavor combinations (hot chicken and spinach feta and artichoke) though there was no feta to be found on that flatbread. Honestly though the hot chicken with its Gorgonzola was quite nice.

We came in with high expectations, probably too high. The servers were not helped by a complete lack of any bussers working , however our server in particular did herself no favors by acting like we were a giant inconvenience the whole time and basically neglecting us. There were multiple times we were close to leaving due to the poor service and the food quality was essentially fine to sub-par. Honestly it was the only bad food experience we had on our week long vacation to the...
