Belong Kitchen HTX — Restaurant in Hedwig Village

I've read a few articles about this restaurant in the Chronicle and stopped by today for lunch for the 1st time and it is such a neat place and concept!

If you're not familiar with the concept, the restaurant/kitchen was built around employing people with a intellectual challenges and giving them a sense of BELONGING and helping them to contribute to society.

I had the fish tacos and was a bit concerned that they would be big enough.

They arrived and almost completely filled up the silver tray they rested on and my concerns were immediately squashed!!

The interior is very simple but still very nice. 2 rows of tables and chairs. Then along one wall there are black and white head shots of the employees and on the other wall are photos of the employees with various well known Houston chefs in their kitchens when they went to the restaurants to be taught by these professional chefs! Bludorn, Sylvia of Sylvia's Enchiladas, Jonathan (The Rub), Johnny Carraba...

My one little, itty, bitty, negative was the tortilla chips that came with the tacos were mostly small broken pieces.

That however would never stop me from going back or recommending Belong...

Grab and go kitchen with dine-in options that offers refrigerated and frozen food as well as fresh baked items. I used their website to access the weekly menu and found the meal of the day available in addition to other frozen dinners, breakfasts, sides, and pre-made lunch items.

My family greatly enjoyed the chicken enchiladas, side of rice, and pan of cinnamon rolls. I drove out of my way to Belong Kitchen due to my support of its mission to provide meaningful employment to all, however my family and I agree that the food tasted really good and we would want to eat from this kitchen again, even if it didn't have a noble mission. I was asked to pick up freezer items next time so that we can try more entrees.

What a beautiful place filled to the brim with beautiful people! The barista, Kendall, prepared some super tasty lattes! We also had some good tacos, awesome Nutella pop tarts, and coffee cake! Y'all, this is a great spot with a beautiful mission.

Y'all get over here and check this place out. Also - these great folks prepare take home meals for 4-6. Get some coffee, breakfast, & dinner for later!
