First time checking this place out since a friend and I were looking for something budget friendly in the area while running errands and came across Hunan Inn. Parking is very easy here, it's in sort of a strip mall with several other businesses so its fairly quick and easy to find a parking spot. We walked in and we were seated immediately despite being a restaurant of smaller size, and although there were multiple tables with guests, I appreciate that they try to space everyone out a bit so you're not shoulder to shoulder or having to talk over another party. Menu has plenty of choices throughout with chicken, seafood, and beef options and vegetarian if you want them to be. We both ordered lunch specials which were about $10 a person and it included an entree, a generous portion of rice, a spring roll and soup of choice. The waitstaff here are constantly checking on you and anything you ask of them is brought swiftly. The food itself was pretty good and the perfect portion size for you to struggle through finishing the last few bites without regretting it. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken plate and it was fairly good, but it also isn't the best I've had in Houston. To be fair, the pricing is so inexpensive for what you get, for $10, you get a great bang for buck here and I'll definitely keep this spot in mind to stop in next time I'm...
Read moreDelicious! I used to frequent this place years ago before I started doing reviews. They’ve still got it! The atmosphere is a little dark, but that doesn’t personally bother me. It’s a good mood setting when you want quiet time. Classical music plays overhead and it’s a nice escape from hustle and bustle of every day. The service is fantastic. My tea was never below 1/2 full. I started with the eggdrop soup which was very good. For my entree, I had the sesame chicken with fried rice. The meal comes with an eggroll. Everything was wonderful. That’s probably the best sesame chicken I’ve ever had! The eggroll is perfectly fried and crispy. I forgot why this place was a favorite of mine so many years ago. Glad I visited today. The dining area is small, with about 12-13 tables. It gets busy during the lunch rush. I went for a late lunch and thoroughly enjoyed this almost forgotten gem. I miss the fun placemats they used to have on the tables. “Year of the” rabbit, dog, sheep, etc. They were fun to read, but they no longer have those. The restaurant is very Chinese decorated. It’s a nice little spot. $10.80 before tip. Great value! Don’t...
Read moreI visited Hunan Inn for the first time last week. It was lunch time and very busy, but there were a couple of open tables so I was seated right away.
The lunch menu has all of the usual items. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken. Lunch comes with your choice of soup, an eggroll, and your choice of steamed or fried rice, or noodles. They serve the typical choice of beef, port, chicken, or vegetarian meals.
They apologized for the delay in getting my order out but I did not feel it was that long, especially considering the crowd.
The biggest surprise here were the prices. Most lunch items are $8 to $10, with one or two items priced at either $7 or $11. Iced tea is $2.00. My bill was $10.80 including tax!
The portions size is great for lunch. Most places give you a large platter, which I have learned to divide into two before I start eating so I can save some for lunch the next day. At Hunan Inn, the lunch plate is a bit larger than half of what you get most places, but not so large that you feel over-stuffed when you finish.
If you enjoy the typical American Chinese restaurant experience, you'll be very...
