Used to be a frequent customer here. I often work in the area and this was one of the only options for a quick, decent breakfast. Will not be returning after the way I was treated today.
I ordered a chicken blt sandwich and a 12oz coffee through the online ordering system. I was waiting at the counter to pick up my food, when I glanced at my emailed receipt and realized I was charged incorrectly. There was a $3.25 charge for the "no side" option I selected with my sandwich. Obviously a glitch in the system, no huge deal. When I was handed my food, I brought this to the attention of the worker and showed her my receipt. She looked kind of perplexed, and then replied "I don't know, do you want a donut or something", to which I said no, not really. She then looked at me with clear annoyance and said "I don't really know what to do about that". This worker had succeeded in making me feel so uncomfortable and somehow in the wrong for bringing up their error, that I took my food and walked away at this point.
I am beyond nice and polite to every worker I interact with, here at hendough and everywhere else I go. To be treated with such disregard and frankly disrespect for an error THE RESTAURANT made, is completely unacceptable. I guess to this worker my $3.25 seems indispensable, but I can assure you I work very hard for my income and being charged incorrectly, no matter the amount, is something that should be rectified by any business that has integrity. This is the kind of treatment people have come to expect from McDonalds, there is no excuses for it anywhere, but it is most unwelcome at a small business that is supposed to be a "local" spot.
And since we're putting all the cards on the table, this isn't the first time the restaurant failed to correct THEIR error. I placed a to go order on June 6th. Picked up my order, left, and found out it was not made correctly by the time I was already 20 minutes away. I called into the store to let them know that the chicken blt I had ordered had no bacon or tomato (kind of a big part of their stock menu item), and I was told the order would be refunded. Never got that...
Read moreI was in Brevard, enjoying a weekend of mountain bike riding. One of my riding buddies brought me out to Hen Dough to catch a quick breakfast.
The shop is on the way into Hendersonville on Kanuga Road and it is located inside a sweet little shack on the side of the road. It is clean and presentable, and the people who work there are filled with smiles and happy words. Everybody in this area is just wonderful!
The donuts are delicious. Light and fluffy, lots of flavor, And perfect texture.
I enjoyed the concoction called "Egg in a Basket". It consists of a couple of eggs, fried into a halved donut (sort of like a bun) with a piece of fried chicken on top and a little bit of bacon on top of that. It is served with jalapeño maple syrup.
I'm not going to lie to you. This thing was disturbing. I couldn't tell if I was eating an "over the top" novelty breakfast (I was), or if I was jockeying to be the next person in line at the local hospital for a quadruple bypass (also a "yes").
That being said, it was fairly tasty. I typically don't eat food like this very often, so it was pretty hard to get past the obvious amount of fat and sugar that was in the dish, but it was decadent. For people who love food like this, this is probably at the very top of their "happy pyramid".
I don't want my distain for this kind of food to detract from the fact that this was an inventive and fun way to eat some pretty outrageous stuff. I bet kids would go nuts for this. They should really stay open a little bit later so that they can cater to the local school crowd as they...
Read moreREAD BEFORE YOU EAT HERE. Was here on 11/4/24 between 10:30-11:15 ish. Me my mom and fiancé. We all three got a biscuit with drinks. $55 for all that and they asked for a tip. I asked the employee if their gravy had pork it in and she rolled her eyes and made the most god awful face at the computer screen. Not sure of her name but she was the younger one with large teeth. Sorry some of us are allergic or can’t have it due to religious reasons… not sure why the attitude was necessary?? I let it go and was super nice thinking maybe she just wasn’t raised right. We tipped and made our drinks. Went to sit down and the only table available had pieces of food and syrup all over it. I had to clean it myself and the employees watched me do it without help. We finally got our food and the biscuits and Brussel spouts were so black. The biscuit was hard as a rock and my fiancés food was cold. Told the employee our food was severely burnt and she stood there and stared, ignoring us. Everyone in the restaurants food was burnt. Wouldn’t say anything. Then we were asked to clean up our own table. Dear owner… $55 + tip to have to wait ourselves, make our own drinks, get our own silverware, clean our table before we sit, pick up our own NON EDIBLE food, then buss our own table?!! What is the tip for?? I wish I could get it back. I wanted to ask for our money back but how dare I bother your rude employees. This is so sad. We use to love eating here. Why are your employees so miserable? They are literally running away customers, look at your other...
