I write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Java Man on our interview date.
For those who love the sea but hate the overbearing crowds that Venice and Santa Monica draw, look no further than Hermosa Beach. Sure, you’ll find your trendy restaurants and boutique shops that tends to find a home in any beach city, but you will also stumble upon classic gems like that of Java Man Coffee House. The 1920’s bungalow style cafe automatically feels like home when you step in through the doors with vintage warm neutrals and pops of color, oldies dancing around your eardrums, fun coffee themed artwork and decor, and the friendliest and quickest staff that I’ve met in the South Bay area. With an extensive drink special and food menu as well as a variety of seating areas outside and inside, including an adorable nook area complete with comfy couches, the possibilities are endless for whatever type of experience you are...
Read moreYou know sometimes when the coffee is good, but the atmosphere just doesn't vibe? This is what this place felt like today. Definitely a very busy, popular coffee shop especially with the locals. It's a bit larger than most coffee shops I enjoy, and lacked that cozy/intimate vibe. If you're into the more open and busy environment while enjoying a cup of Joe, then you may truly enjoy it here. Different strokes for different folks. I felt very rushed during deciding which pastry and coffee to try, since my first time here and they have 3 chalkboard with menu items written very, very tiny. The pastry was overwhelmingly sweet and had a dense cake on the bottom. They really cater to the vegetarian/vegan community and have an assortment of friendly options for sandwiches and pastries. Good coffee, just the rushed environment and overly sweet pastry left a...

I haven't been to Hermosa before, and was grousing I would have to give all my coffee money to Starbucks. My consternation grew with every mile closer to the beach. When the Uber took an unexpected turn, I noticed a cheerful coffeeshop that commensurated with my hopes of a half decent breakfast. I asked the driver to end the trip. And seethed as I got out and crossed the road.
I hold alot of credulity in my fellow yelper recommendations and in my usual fashion, there was the impetuous desire to check the Yelp Highlightz. 'Breakfast Burrito...get it while supplies last' wrote one comrade. The staffer informed me there was no paucity in the menu and so I opted for the burrito as opposed to the more salubrious items on display. The salsa is fresh and sublime.
Java Man is a laudable spot in the South Bay. When in Hermosa, one must strut sagaciously. I goad you to...
