Red & Louie's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Hermosa Beach

Best Chicago pizza and Italian beef place in the South Bay! Originally from Chicago but have been in LA area now since 1998. Since that time, it’s been impossible to find anything similar to Giordanos, Beggars, Rosatis or Lou Malnatis. I even visited Joe Mategna’s Taste of Chicago up in Burbank awhile back which didn’t quite cut it.

My go to has been Fresh Brothers but they changed their recipe a few years ago and it’s not that good anymore. Union Pizza was another that had a decent deep dish. But I finally got around to trying Red & Louie’s last week and can definitively say it’s the best Chicago experience you’ll find out here.

I’ve tried the following so will try to comment on each: sausage thin crust, pepperoni thin crust, cheese garlic bread and Italian beef.

The sausage and pepperoni thin crust tastes almost exactly like Giordanos. Red & Louie’s has a stone fire over so you know how important that is to a crispy crust like most Chicago pizza. Thin crust pizza is excellent.

The cheese garlic bread tastes a bit like Lou Malnati’s cheese bread but better. Marinara sauce is great and a perfect blend.

The Italian Beef was also excellent and comparable to Portillo’s. While there is a Portillo’s in Anaheim, that’s not somewhere you’re going to drive to unless you’re already in the area. Red & Louie’s also offers marinara on the side for the beef like Pop’s and like some Portillo’s still do.

I haven’t tried the deep dish yet but can already say this is one of the best restaurants and pizzas in the South Bay. It’s also a good, chill place to watch some sports on the multiple flat screens inside. Highly recommended from a...

Was in the area for another event and had a hankering for pizza. Red & Louie’s was within walking distance and boy was it worth the 5 minute walk. From the moment we walked in, Bobby D (excuse my spelling) greeted us with a warm welcome and made us feel like regulars. We ordered a pizza and even asked for half pepperoni and half pineapple (judge me, it’s okay) and they catered to us. The pizza is cut Chicago style and the crust is nice and crispy. You can really taste the freshness and quality of ingredients. Make sure you ask for their house made ranch and hot honey! A perfect compliment to a delicious pizza you can tell is made with love and care. We live in LA proper and would make the drive down here just to have pizza. The atmosphere truly feels like Cheers and I’m so grateful we decided to walk in for a bite. Special shout out to Bobby d for making us feel at home. With legit one of the best pizzas...

Wow this lived up to the reviews! This spot is an absolute must. First of all the staff was extremely helpful in guiding our choices and making recommendations. I was so hangry from a beach day that I couldn’t even make coherent choices. The owner (I think) was super friendly, introduced himself, and offered us a round on the house. We took our food to go back to the hotel and IT BLEW MY MIND. Italian salad is stellar with ranch for the dressing. Homemade meatball sandwich was absolutely outstanding. And best of all…the PIZZA. Flavor is out of this world with crust so thin and crispy! I did a half and half and was able to try the deluxe (sausage omg) and the Margherita Blanca. Trust me when I say we will be back when we are in town next time. My only regret is I didn’t...
