Spumoni Trattoria & Pizzeria — Restaurant in Hermosa Beach

I never really complain about bad service, but our experience this evening warrants a bad review. To start off the night we did not receive a warm welcome when asking for a table. Our waitress was extremely pushy, especially with the drink order. She rushed us and became impatient and annoyed while my son was deciding on what to drink. He had his heart set on a Shirley temple, however the restaurant ran out soda so it took him some time to decide.

After the drinks were put in, we ordered our food. Both of our boys wanted French fries with their dinners, but roasted vegetables came out with their meals instead. When we prompted the waitress about this mix up, she became argumentative and tried to place them blame on us stating that we ordered vegetables. The staff ended up bringing us a small plate of fries because that is what we originally ordered! We got the fries, however the tension between our table and the waitress was very clear so I wasn’t surprised when they had another waitress bring us the bill.

Glancing over the bill I saw that they tried to charge us for the plate of fries, which was annoying because the waitress got the order wrong the first time. As I brought it up to the second waitress she asked our original one, who then tried to blame the kitchen staff for her mistake. She could not even own up to it, nor did she apologize for situation.

What is most upsetting about the entire experience is that we came here to celebrate my dad’s birthday. We were very much looking forward to our evening because we have been here before and had an entirely different experience compared to our last visit. I would expect this level of customer service at a fast food chain like jack in box, not at a “family restaurant”. We arrived at 6pm on a Monday for a birthday celebration. I know with the 50% off it can get crazy so we decided to go and put our names on the list but they have a policy where you can't be seated until your whole party is here which is fine. Our whole party doesnt arrive until 6:50 to which I let the hostess know and she said it will be another 45 minutes until a table for 6 opens up. To which I see a four top then a two top with one individual sitting there and 2 more two tops on the other side of her open. So I ask the hostess if I can ask the one individual if she could move to one of the other 2 tops so we can push these together and get six top. She says "100% sure now worries". Well Monica who was the manager told the lady that she absolutely won't be moving and they don't ask guests to move. To which I told her I asked your hostess she said "I could" I then asked the lady and she was more than happy to move. The only one Unhappy was Monica. I went back to the nice lady and said the wont let her move and she says " That ridiculous I'm happy too" Monica saw me talking to the guest again and came over and the women lied to Monica and said she offered to move and that she insisted to which Monica begrudgingly relented and allowed us to do it. After that whole debacle the service was atrocious, Waiting 45 minutes for our appetizers, Wrong items/Missing items on our salads, We asked for goat cheese on the salad which she brought out blue cheese and when we told her we think its blue cheese she said they dont even serve that. Spoiler it was blue cheese. We asked for the check 3 times and for boxes twice, The didnt have any large boxes just small boxes so we had to cram our food into 4 small boxes. We visited our daughter today in Redondo Beach and decided to eat Italian for dinner. We normally hit the Manhattan Beach area for Italian food but my daughter told us there is a new Italian restaurant has just opened near her. Without hesitation, we all agreed to try a new restaurant.

Upon arrival, we were surprised how much buzz this place has. With lovely music playing, we already felt this place was the right restaurant for us. I have to tell you, we made the right decision to eat here.

Besides the big portion, the restaurant has fantastic Italian foods. I am very particular about my pasta being al dente. They have done a good job on the pasta which was chewy yet with right firmness. The sauce is even better with creamy and flavorful taste. We ordered the penne with chicken in Alfredo sauce and capellini checca. Both are wonderful foods and I feel I haven't had such good Italian food for a long time until now.

We also saw other tables ordered the pasta cook on a cheese drum. I guess we should try this out next time to experience the unique dinner format.

Dessert seems to be on everyone's order list, so we tried their tiramisu. I have to say this tiramisu is one of the best I have ever had. Will be back to try other...
