If you're looking for a great spot to sit in the sun & brunch, look no further. The first time I came here was years ago. I am not sure why it took me so long to come back, but glad I did come back. We came on a Saturday, and there was a steady stream of patrons. It's not required but I'd recommend reservations.
Food: I ordered the Salmon Benedict. It was actually not what I thought it would be, but in a good way. It's basically eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, but instead of the english muffin, you get potatoes. I was pretty hungry but wasn't able to finish. The portion is very generous. Same goes for the fried chicken and waffles. You won't walk away hungry. The chicken was fried well. Juicy on the inside and a nice crunch on the outside. TBH, I did not try the waffles, mainly because I was busy eating my salmon and did not want to change the flavor in my mouth. H&P also offers bottomless mimosas with a variety of juice/mixer options.
Ambiance: It's a cute spot right on Pier. I love that you can sit in the sun. It's not a true outside patio and I don't think you're allowed to bring dogs in, but the front does open up, so you get sunshine & a little breeze. If you overeat like I did, take a little stroll down to the pier after, to "walk it off".
Service: Service was friendly and fast. Our server was on top of coming around for mimosa refills & overall had a really great attitude. It got pretty busy but she kept smiling and just like with us, I heard her funny/witty exchanges with...
Read moreWe decided to venture to Hermosa Beach for some breakfast and saw that the reviews of this place were pretty good, so we checked it out.
It’s located on Pier Ave which during summer months will be really tough to find parking, but we found a spot no problem (thank you winter months).
We ordered the oysters (served with a delicious olive oil and micro cilantro which was different and very good), the fish tacos, the clam chowder, the French fries (hold the truffle) and the kale salad.
Our server was great. She was very attentive and knew the food prep well. The reason I say that is because I always ask about how salad’s are dressed because I don’t need much dressing on mine… you’d be surprised how many servers don’t get this right. She promised me it was lightly dressed and it sure was! Perfection. 👌
We found the fish tacos a little bit dry. The fish is fried and is served on corn tortillas. I think if these tacos were to have a bit more moisture, like maybe a salsa or some pico de gallo, that would help. The French fry sauces were both very tasty; we very much enjoyed the flavors. The clam chowder also had a little different twist to it which we liked too!

Read moreWe have seen this restaurant before on Pier Street but tonight was our first visit. It was not overly busy but the holiday week probably has people running around elsewhere. I ordered the scallops and my buddy ordered the fish of the day which was grouper. We were both amazed. The grouper was prepared as lightly crunchy on the outside, perfect texture on the inside. The flavors just jumped out at you from the fish, the quinoa and the greens in some kind of amazing dressing. I had to call my daughter, a chef with training at the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan, and tell her about this scallop dish, I don’t know how to describe the combination of citrus and berries. Every bit was amazing. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts as a side dish and it went well. This restaurant boasts a large beer menu with some strange flavors including vanilla cream (sounds nasty in a beer) and peanut butter (we tried but couldn’t really taste the peanuts). I’m an Irishman, and somehow flavored beer just seems wrong to me. But there is nothing I can say that fully describes the amazing art of the chef at this restaurant. We...
