Im giving 3 starts for service and taking care of issues by staff despite high food issues. Food is negative zero! Im reviewing this place from the veiw of a whole foods eater, who hates bacon, salt, fat and grease and who has diabetics and high blood pressure people in family although I dont have either of those because of my choice of NOT eating all that! Not by a doctors orders by natural taste. We drove 3 hours for a birthday, so this place was choice of that person. Others in the party thought the place was great. Margaritas was great and great you could get a patron one! Thats all fine, but if I had known the preparation of some of the food I would have got the vegetable platter. Or suggested Steer and Stien up the road. I had not realized we backtracked to an area we used to go to and like that restaurant. They let the food speak for itself. A note on ordering. Waitress asked do you want "mushrooms and onions on that"? Menu lists side you choose 2. There is a topper menu that is $2.50 each. So "onions and mushrooms" would cost you $5. Need to state that! My partner likes mushrooms but he wanted on the side. Saying on side started the Abbot and Costello whose on first routine with her saying 10 tims both on side! Him no just mushrooms! Disclaimer to my tastes, I dont like steak except prime rib, filet mingon because I was raised on only hamburger and beef stew. My mother didnt have salt or pepper on the table. So this is partly my specific tastes. To note the noise was unbearable but it was Saturday night so note that if you want a less noisy night. To note staff was very polite, service pretty quick considering crowds and took my dinner off in the end. Check in was very organized. We had made I guess what you call a semi reservation. They do only seat once entire party is there. Seating if very automated and great considering crowds and turnover! Its just some of the food??? I ordered medium well prime rib. Half was fat. But it was gooey, and tasted terrible. Not even like meat. I dont know how its prepped, stored or cooked but I couldnt eat it. My sister also had issues with the "enough salt based and weird oily tasting seasoning" to kill a moose! So she had her steak redone plain. I asked if I could just get salmon! Sisters new steak she liked. Others got the yams which I dont like either so I just got a baked potatoe with butter. It was like warm salty slime? I didnt understand the texture of a plain baked potato? I asked waitress at her next table check why this potatoe tasted greasy and salty. The anser shocked me to the moon and back. "We soak our potatoes in bacon water and salt"? Are we kiddng? That leaves NO room to not have a potatoe that will kill you if you are on a salt free and low cholesterol diet? People can add their own salt. The soaking must be what makes the texture weird. So my new salmon came with a new potato. I had said dont replace the potato to not waste another one but maybe what the cook does. But instead of a similar greasy one I got one with large salt crystals stuck all over it??? And same odd taste and texture of actual potato! I threw that on top of my not eaten prime rib plate. The salmon "looked" good but again not edible. Had the same slimy salty taste piled high with black salty stuff. I forgot to say no salt on my margarita but it had black salt. I wiped it all off. My 2nd margarita very odd. Didnt taste like first at all. I let several others taste it and they said it didnt even taste like one, tasted like watery salt? First was great and patron based? No explaination for this?I didnt say anything since they had taken my meal off. I had broccoli for dinner! Unless void of tequilla at all? I took one bite and gagged on the salmon. My scraping off the topping didnt make the salmon not taste the same slime greasy way? Maybe a separate grill needed or the plain foods so they can have their stand alone taste? My final opinon is why have anything on the menu besides one dish, steak and potatoe, if everything is soaked in bacon...
Read moreI am writing to formally file a complaint regarding a deeply disappointing and disrespectful experience my husband endured at your Hesperia, CA location (9601 Mariposa Rd) on [insert date of visit].
My husband is an active duty U.S. Navy Sailor with 16 years of honorable service to our country. He visited your restaurant for lunch, expecting the warm and welcoming environment your brand is known for. Instead, he was met with an unacceptable level of service that not only disrespected his identity but also humiliated him in front of his peers.
Upon ordering a beer with his meal, he responsibly presented his valid U.S. Military ID, a legally recognized form of identification under California Business and Professions Code § 25660, and acceptable for verifying age for alcohol purchases. Unfortunately, his server, Aly, refused to serve him and did so in a condescending and accusatory manner, implying his ID was not legitimate. She did not appear familiar with California law regarding acceptable IDs for alcohol service, which is concerning given her role.
To avoid further conflict, my husband stepped away from the table to search his friend’s vehicle for another ID. This interrupted his lunch and caused unnecessary embarrassment. Upon returning and calmly reiterating that his Military ID is legal and valid, Aly chose to cancel his order anyway.
Her behavior continued throughout the rest of the meal. She made comments that felt intentionally provoking, including repeatedly asking him, “Are you okay?” in a tone that came across as sarcastic. When he responded honestly, “Not really, I wanted to have my beer,” she remarked, “You’re being sassy and I don't like it.” This tone and treatment are unprofessional, unkind, and entirely out of line.
As they were leaving, after paying at the table, another server accused them of leaving without paying. This added insult to injury and made the group feel wrongly targeted.
We are appalled that a company of your stature, known for supporting veterans and active-duty service members, would allow such treatment to occur. It is especially troubling when your employee failed to understand or follow California law. The lack of courtesy, the questioning of a service member’s legitimacy, and the escalation of an otherwise simple transaction are all unacceptable.
We request the following:
A formal apology to my husband.
That your staff, especially at the Hesperia location, be re-trained on acceptable forms of ID under California law, particularly as it pertains to military identification.
Appropriate disciplinary or corrective action for the employees involved to prevent this from happening again.
We hope this matter will be taken seriously and addressed promptly. As a military family, we value respect, professionalism, and integrity. We hope Texas...
Read moreWent there 2 days in a row. This is how much I liked (emphasis: liked) this place. I ordered takeout from the to go window. I tried to order using online, got all the way to the end and the app was not working! Called the Hesperia site and it said on the phone welcome recording that you need to use online to order takeout. Infuriating.
Finally got a hold of a nice lady on the phone, she said online ordering is down, and I ordered over the phone to her. Got there and they couldn't find my order on the computer, neither with my name or my phone number! 😤 Ugh.
The manager was called and he finally found it. It was apparently not put in the computer all the way or something. Got my food and left. Food was good I will admit!
Then for my anniversary, the VERY NEXT DAY, we took our family to dinner there. I was the one that choose to go there because I always liked it. We are very very common customers there, so very common that one of the waitress recognizes us when we come in! (She wasn't there this night). Anyway I asked to have the prime rib (which was done perfectly and excellent) and I ordered my two sides to be both a house salad. In the menu, it says: "pick any two sides". It DOES NOT say you can't pick two of the same sides. The waitress said no I can't have two side salads. It's not allowed and never had been since the place came into business. 🤨 what? Um bs. I've done it before there a lot of times with no problem. She asked if I wanted to talk to the manager. I did, and he was pretty nice but said it's a rule, no two salads as your two sides. Really? Salad has got to be the cheapest side there! No cooking. Just plop it in a dish!
Talk about petty!
He said it's because of the expensive egg they put on top. You mean that 1/4th of an egg chopped up with pale yellow yolk? Ya ok. Wow. Penny pinchers. What if I wanted a baked potato and sweet potato as my sides? Too much potato so the answer is no? C'mon guys... Permanently ditch the dang eggs on the salad, I don't care for it anyway.
I left feeling embarrassed and like "I did something wrong, or against their rules". I'm not looking for special accommodations or treatment. I'm not asking for a free side, it says choose any two... without additional restrictions listed, such as no doubles allowed. Not cool. I did get my two salads out of their reluctance and I guess his (manager's) niceness but I still had a bitter feeling. It's two salads. Wow. Let's call the manager for your illegitimate double side salad order. Yep.
Once I get a negative feeling about a place, especially a place I sank a lot of money into over the years, I really don't return anymore... Just saying. Don't be so petty.
