I loved it from the time I walked in, to the time I was too stuffed go eat another bite, to the time I ate my leftovers for breakfast the next morning. I was traveling on business to the surrounding area and was alone in my hotel room and feeling hungry as it was getting late. I arrived at the restaurant about 30 minutes before they closed for the night. I normally try not to get to a restaurant that close to closing time as I was once in the food service industry and I remember how it felt to stop my end of day clean up efforts to do work that usually led to additional cleanup. I was greeted with a smile. As I had never been to BBQ Joe's before, I needed a few extra minutes to peruse the menu. After narrowing my options, I began to place my to go order (I may have entered near closing but I was not going to dine in and keep them even longer). Given as I previously stated, I was feeling hungry and had never been here before, I opted for the 3 meat sampler. I was helped through the wonderful selection of meats since I had options on them. I chose sliced brisket over the chopped, dark leg quarter over the pulled for my chicken, and St. Louis style ribs, which came one way (big and delicious). I then moved on to choosing my two sides. Even with so many from which to choose, I selected the Cole slaw and the baked beans (I already said I was alone in a hotel room 😁). I couldn't say no to ordering the banana pudding if course. One must always give a newly found BBQ joint the opportunity to wow you with their banana pudding. The food did not take too long to come out at all and, given I was in a hotel room, I asked if I could get extra napkins and plastic cutlery, which she happily provided. I noticed the weight of the bag once I picked it up, which only peaked my interest even more. So, I was off in no time, back to my hotel room, to taste this amazing food that was filling my rental car with such wonderful aromas. Back at the hotel, I opened that styrofoam container only to be met with the intense blast of BBQ scents and the visual confirmation of what I already knew from picking up the bag back at the restaurant.... SO much food! And it looked amazing too! I wish I had thought to take a picture then, but I simply couldn't resist digging in to that meal. The brisket was pink and tender, the chicken only held to bone long enough for me to pick it up and my teeth touch it and then it fell right off in tender succulent bites. The St. Louis ribs were huge and tender and not smothered in BBQ sauce so I could enjoy the little bit I was able to eat due to eating as much as I did at that point. There was just so much food. I was able to get in a few bites of the banana pudding before rolling myself to my bed for the night. It is now my favorite banana pudding! In conclusion, I not only thoroughly enjoyed the food itself, but I also really enjoyed the overall experience. More times than not, traveling food is just about the food. I am glad this time it was not and that I was able to experience BBQ Joe's.

I remember trying – and liking – BBQ Joe’s not long after moving to High Point, which makes it puzzling that I haven’t been a more frequent visitor. Like most self-respecting barbecue joints, BBQ Joe’s lets the food do the talking: the dining area is strictly utilitarian. They keep busy here, but the staff are very efficient, and you won’t be waiting long for anything. While BBQ Joe’s serves up the chopped or pulled pork that is synonymous with the Tarheel State, don’t go looking for the classic Lexington-style experience. They have a variety of sauces as well as ribs, chicken, smoked turkey, and brisket. Stop in before 11, and you can feast on a variety of biscuits. For my most recent visit, I picked up a chopped brisket sandwich with white slaw, a side of hushpuppies, and a banana pudding. The food was prepped quickly and brought out with a smile. The brisket couldn’t touch what I had in Texas, but for High Point, it was definitely respectable. Though not as smokey as I would have hoped for, the meat was tender, and the sandwich held plenty of it. That said, the house Joe’s sauce runs a bit sweet, and you might want to add a dash of something spicier. While the ring-shaped hushpuppies were addictively crispy and delicious, the banana pudding rated as tasty but unremarkable. BBQ Joe’s is a reliable option for good food and fast service. You can find better barbecue if you’re inclined to travel, but for High Point proper, this is it.

If you're looking for a dining experience that feels like home with a touch of southern comfort, the BBQ sandwich with red slaw and the banana pudding dessert is an absolute must-try.

Big E and the staff greeted me with warm smiles even though I arrived at closing. I explained that I thought they were open til 10 p.m. but they actually closed at 8 and I was traveling through. The staff did not hesitate to prepare a couple of sandwiches for me so I wouldn't go down the road hungry.

So now let me tell you about this BBQ sandwich - it is a masterpiece indeed!! The tender, slow-cooked pork that practically melts in your mouth, coated in a rich, smoky sauce and the red slaw adds the perfect balance of tangy and crunchy, complementing the smoky sweetness of the meat. Every bite is a harmonious mix of flavors and textures that you’ll want to savor. The portion is generous, making sure you leave satisfied but not overstuffed.

And then there's the banana pudding—a dessert so good, it could be the star of the show. Creamy, with layers of vanilla wafers, fresh bananas, and a silky custard, it's the perfect way to round off your meal. It's indulgent without being too heavy, just the right touch of sweetness to end on a high note.

It’s not just the food, though—it’s the people and the atmosphere that truly elevate this meal. The chefs, working behind the scenes, take obvious pride in their craft, and it’s clear that each dish is made with love. If you’re ever in the area, don’t miss out on this gem—it’s a place where good food and good company come together in perfect harmony. What a great choice recommended by one of my fellow...

While I was shopping in the Archdale/High Point, NC area, I decided to stop in at BBQ Joe's Country Cooking restaurant for lunch on a Sunday. It was about 2 pm & I expected the usual crowded conditions but encountered only a group of 5 fellow Veterans who were just leaving. I, of course, enjoyed a good session of discussion with them out in the parking lot before going in. I was met quickly by the friendly cashier at the order counter. Placed my order for Chopped pork BBQ sandwich with coleslaw added onto it, an order of fries & a drink cup for a dine in experience. As I went to the self serve soda dispenser that had a selection of Coke products, I looked around the completely empty, clean restaurant. Picking a secluded booth area where I could view the front door & order counter area & kitchen, I had a seat. It wasn't very long when my plate arrived with a heaping full bun of chopped BBQ Pork along with a very generous serving of French fries. I added some house BBQ sauce that was there at the table along with some other condiments & took my first bite of purely delicious BBQ Pork. Uum, uum! So good! The krinkle cut fries were freshly cooked, warm & had just the right, crispy, crunchy texture. After a pleasant 30 minutes or so of quite dining, the server brought me the bill & I proceeded to pay at the cashier counter after getting a soda refill. I left a generous tip & the entire bill was only about $21. Well worth the price for the tasty, pleasant dining experience. I highly recommend stopping by this restaurant if you are in the mood for some...
