I have been a regular patron of this restaurant for a couple of years now, and am entirely disappointed in my experiences -especially my most recent ones due to an employee named Paty. Not only does my order not get put together properly on a regular basis, but I am continually disappointed by the lack of customer service. Besides the food regularly coming out wrong (beans on side come on it, extra tortillas aren’t even there, etc), the service and care for their customers is very lacking. I recently asked for no ice in my to-go drink, and then Paty serves me a drink with ice and argues with me about it telling me to “just take it anyways, it’s only a little bit of ice” (which I did not accept). And then, the cherry on top was on 12/18. I went to pick up a to-go order for my work that included a cup of horchata with no ice and was handed, by Paty, a partially filled to-go cup of horchata that looked as if someone had already drank some of it. I looked at the cup, and then politely asked Paty for the cup to be filled to the top since we are paying for the drink. Yet again, Paty wants to argue with me and says verbatim “Oh, they don’t do that here”. I confusedly asked her “they do not fill drinks full for customers who pay for them?” and she then takes the drink back and gives me a smirk and says “we will give a full cup this ONE time” and proceeds to the back for, what I believed was to get more drink. When she brought it back the drink was full, but my coworker who received the drink immediately knew it had been filled with WATER. Not only did she argue with me about serving a full drink to a paying customer, but she filled it to the top with WATER and served it to us this way. We have ordered this many many MANY times from here and know what horchata should taste like, so when I tried the drink myself it was very apparent that this is exactly what had happened. Very obvious. Y’all should be ashamed over this. The food here is actually great, but it doesn’t make up for this type of unacceptable type of service and way conducting business. We will be finding a new restaurant to frequent and spend our hard...
Read moreCan't write a review without a star. Doesn't deserve the 1 star I give it. DO NOT bother coming here. My inlaws are in town and we decided to have a nice Mexican dinner. We've eaten here before so we ordered carry out and got there a couple minutes early and saw our food was already waiting at the counter. When I asked the (not so polite) guy with tattoos all over his hands running up under his long sleeve shirt at the register if this was our order he replied with a non polite "don't know." My mother in law ordered something with chicken and it was overly salty. And this is a woman who puts salt on everything saying it was too much. And the funny thing is our tortilla chips had ZERO salt On them. My father in law actually liked his dinner, but found a big piece of plastic in it. I believe my wife ordered steak tacos to which she said were bland and sloppy. And I ordered a steak dinner that was mashed together with soggy lettuce, rice, onions, and refried beans. A nice slop of goop. The steak was extremely fatty. By the time I cut all the fat away was close to 40% gone, just from the fat. I ended up having to add a bunch of things from my fridge to it since it too was bland. I was given 2 small flour tortillas when the last time I got this meal I was given 4 or 5. Very stingy with that and we saw on the receipt there was a petty $0.25 charge for it being a "carry out" order. We would've been better off getting Taco Bell for the money we spent. At least we would've known what we have gotten. I don't normally complain about what I eat, but I had higher expectations of this place since we ordered from there before and it was halfway decent. They can keep the petty $0.25 "carry out fee" since they probably need it if this is how they do business. But they won't get mine again, and I suggest not spending your money here. Maybe they can call Gordon Ramsay for an episode of "Kitchen Nightmares" to save them. I suggest looking elsewhere or just eating...
Read moreHigh Point has no shortage of mid-tier Mexican eateries (another, La Fiesta, is a short walk away), and at first blush, Mi Pueblo doesn’t appear to do much to distinguish itself. The music, the brick-and-Southwestern décor, and even the name all create the vague sense that you’ve been there, seen that. However, there were enough surprises to help Mi Pueblo stand out from the pack.
For starters, the menu is appreciably huge. In addition to the base menu, there are supplements for street tacos, make-your-own rice bowls, and tortas. While you certainly can go the familiar route here, Mi Pueblo offers plenty of room to branch out. Want a baked potato stuffed with meat, cheese, and avocado? They have that. Want a bit-of-everything combo platter that serves four? They have that too. The same spirit of abundance extends to the drinks menu, which features quite a few margarita offerings (and sangria).
My wife and I went with chiles poblanos (fried cheese-stuffed peppers) and a sopes trio (open-faced sandwiches featuring different toppings on thick corn discs). While our server was generally on top of things, the kitchen proved rather slow. Though far from empty, the restaurant was hardly slammed at the time of our visit.
Fortunately, when the food did arrive, it proved worth the wait. The sopes included a tinga (slow roasted chicken), a potato, and a chorizo offering, all of which were tasty. The poblano was something akin to a luxury XL version of a jalapeno popper and became an instant favorite. A $6.95 “medium” flavored margarita will leave you scratching your head as you ponder how big of a glass a large would require.
This, plus fairly affordable pricing, suggests that Mi Pueblo is more than merely the solid three-star experience it first appears to be. Repeat visits will tell if that holds...
