Sadly, something needs to change before we’ll consider going back, and we’ve given the place 4 tries now (shame on us, but it’s so close to our house).
Last time we went, waited 20 minutes with several dirty tables not cleaned and no one seated/acknowledged us, we ended up sitting at one that was mostly ok, and wiped it up ourselves. No server spoke to us, we asked several other employees if we could order but they couldn’t seem to help. Eventually, the cook took our order and said to one of the other employees “they’ll never get their order in if I don’t take it”, gesturing toward the server (who was mostly just standing around and talking about how busy it had been earlier). The waffle machine was borderline buried in old waffle muck, it was all over the floor, and one employee spent the whole time slowly not really cleaning it. We never spoke to our server, food was wrong (not really cooks fault), but they fixed things eventually. We left with still not a table cleaned during the whole time we were there. There had to be at least 6 people working (to varying degrees) at the time to boot.
Today: we got sat quickly and server was nice, but they were ignoring this older woman who had clearly come from church, and was asking for foil to take her leftovers home. She asked 4 times, and after 10 minutes got some foil. She then got up to walk out and pay, and I wanted to cry as she waded through incredibly wet floors covered with debris. When they clean the tables, they just push everything onto the floor, and then ring out the towel onto the ground, and then call it quits (I saw this myself). This poor (and not super mobile) woman and her nice shoes deserved a better and safer environment. Then our food came, and they had forgotten to cover and smother my hash browns so she quickly went to fix that, but she brought them back with a cold unmelted slice of cheese on top. I asked if she could get it melted (wild that was even a question) and she said she could try. She succeeded. Then I cut my eggs, and they were absolute room temperature (as was the toast), the actual coldest eggs I’ve ever eaten, they must have been just out and not near the blacktop for at least 10 minutes. And they had tons of undercooked translucent whites. We left noticing a couple to our left who hadn’t been spoken to in the 5 minutes they had been there. Gf has had an upset stomach all day, not surprised.
This place is wild, it’s not food safe or even just physically safe. There’s always plenty of staff, but seemingly no oversight or instruction, and while everyone is fairly nice there’s always some stress and chaos going on back there. It wouldn’t be hard to change these things, so I’m just shocked that no one is at the wheel to do so. The wildest thing? 94.5 A health inspection rating. They must have been tipped off they were coming. I’d...
Read moreThe Waffle House at 110 Daniel Boone St in Hillsborough, NC, is basically what you’d expect from a Waffle House—cheap, quick, and low-key awesome if you’re in the right mindset. First off, the staff is super friendly. Like, they genuinely seem happy you’re there, which is not always a vibe you get from restaurants at this price point. One time, I went with my roommate, and we both ate for under $20, which is honestly clutch when you’re balling on a college budget.
The food? Classic Waffle House greatness. The hashbrowns are hands-down my favorite. I got them scattered, smothered, and covered, and they didn’t disappoint. Also, the patty melt is a sleeper hit—greasy in the best way possible. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s fresh and cooked right in front of you, which kind of makes you feel like you’re in on the action. Plus, the portions are solid for the price, so you’re not leaving hungry.
As for the vibe, it’s pretty chill. The place is clean, the music isn’t blasting, and it’s open late, which makes it perfect for post-study or late-night food runs. There’s plenty of parking, which is a win if you’re driving. I’ve heard a couple of people say the service can be hit or miss, but every time I’ve gone, the crew has been on point. Honestly, it’s a way better move than hitting up some random fast food drive-thru.
In the end, it’s not a five-star restaurant or anything, but it’s got this charm that makes you want to come back. If you’re in Hillsborough and want good food without breaking the bank, this Waffle House is a solid choice. Plus, who doesn’t love waffles...
Read moreBelinda. Belinda. Belinda. After a long and stressful 6 day work week (and a bad morning) I decided to treat myself for a change and have breakfast cooked and served for me for a change. I went to the Waffle house in Hillsborough. My waitress so understanding. She just knew something was wrong with me and I didnt even have to say anything. Her gestures of kindness and compassion were out of this world. She had coffee radar and came when I was low without even knowing if I needed more. Her service was phenominal. I was not expecting it at all. It was a pleasant surprise and a great start to a better day. There was another young lady who came to my table to check on me too. She knew I was having a rough morning also. She was very cheerful. I am happy that I went there. They made my day so much better. To the manager. You have great staff and you don't have to be on them so much. Loosen up a little bit. You have a GREAT team. Although I don't know what happened before, I can only speak on what I observed. I saw and heard you tell the girl to stand next to the person she is working with. If she was told by that person to do something, then let her do it. She is learning and sometimes you have to step away to learn something else to help you do your job better. There is no I in Team and this restaurant is for a TEAM. You sir, have a Great Team! All of them are outstanding. Even you. Your professionalism and tone when you were frustrated was good. You kept your cool. Keep up the good work! You are ALL GREAT! Best decision of my...
