Every Tuesday after work, I ask my girlfriend if she’d like to go for a walk; it only took two weeks for her to realize that “go on a walk” means “walk all the way down First Street to Little City Books”. It just so happens that every Tuesday is also new release day! LCB is a quaint local book shop not far from the PATH and waterfront & they have an impressive selection for the size of the store. By the way, if you’re someone who doesn’t want to support small businesses or authors by paying cover price, instead of bringing up the price difference on Amazon, go to your local library instead. :)

I’ve heard of this bookstore before and finally got the chance to visit. The experience was underwhelming, I’ve visited multiple bookstores and I usually find the booksellers who are very active in their roles and offer book suggestions. This wasn’t the case here. They have a good selection of books and I love the structure of the store and a cute outdoor seating area.

We found what we were looking for here (specific early reader chapter books). The staff were helpful, and certainly not rude, but also not remarkably friendly. Their prices were ok, but more expensive than another bookstore that we hit up later in the day. Would I return? If I find myself needing to do so- but I wouldn't go out of my way at all.

I went to Little City books for the second time ever today, and I think this was truly the worst experience I've ever had at a bookstore. The staff was super inattentive, from the moment I walked in to when I was checking out (I only purchased something as I had to get a last minute gift). I always thought of this store as supportive of BIPOC and marginalized groups, but the books whose covers were front facing were predominantly by white, racist, male authors. Not to mention the Harry Potter display and a staff pick being American Dirt. As an independent bookstore, I would hope there would be more of an effort to promote BIPOC and marginalized voices and less focus on harmful authors and books. Not sure if this is simply ignorance, but as a bookstore, it is their responsibility to do their due diligence in researching the authors...

I got here on a Sunday, spent about an hour trying to spot something that I could be interested on, but nothing called my attention, so I asked for help. I gave them a vague description of what I was looking for "I want a feel good fiction, but not a romance, neither fantasy". They looked at me for a second, and brought a few options. I've just finished one of their suggestions and was the best book I've read in several years!! And that is why you should buy at a local store, instead of large online retailer! Not only you support your community, as they have a team that is passionate about reading, helping you find EXACTLY what you are looking for, even if you don't...
