I love Urban Coal house it is a go to spot in uptown Hoboken. The staff is awesome whether u sit at the bar or a table. My husband and I often come on Monday. They have $4 craft drafts all night long. My other favorite thing about CH is their salads especially the house salad which i get with shrimp, however recently i came in on wednesday craving the same salad i had Monday and it was definitely not what i remember. Shrimp were over cooked. Rubbery and the salad was not fresh. Because i come here often for many years i decided to come back over the weekend. Hoping to enjoy this awesome salad i had on Monday & once again i was disappointed. it was not fresh and shrimp was over cooked.
Whoever they have in the kitchen on Monday’s needs to work additional days and train the other kitchen staff. I want people to know CH offers so much more than pizza especially when you are trying to be social and eat on the healthier side but the inconsistency in the kitchen with both the salads AND the soups which is what I mainly order aside from pizza, needs to improve, no one will know the true potential of Urban if theres no consistency with the kitchen, theres a very clear difference throughout the week. Some plates are made with love & some plates aren’t, depends on the day of the week you’re coming in.
Love this place so much but they need to get the kitchen together. I want Urban to be a hoboken staple...
Read moreFirst dining experience at a restaurant since March with my husband and 2 little kids. Didn’t think to make a reservation when we saw at least of the tables OUTSIDE were empty. Upon asking for a table, we were told we could ONLY sit inside without a reservation. I immediately went on open table and got a reservation for 5 minutes after we were just told we needed one. Although many tables were open, the hostess then walked us to the last table; one of edict was similar to other seated patrons who were in groups of one 2 or 3. We were 4 with 2 kids.
We then ordered within 10 minutes of being sat. We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 pizzas, and a kids pasta. 10 minutes later, our wings come to our table with a hair baked right into the chicken. They immediately took it back (later off the bill) but our pizzas (entree) came to our table a minute later. Our table could not hold our food so we had to put our waters or empty cups on the floor. They refused to add a small table to our table because they “had reservations” coming in 30minutes so we could use a second smaller table only up until the reservation arrived.
All in all, they’re food was good but I’d recommend just picking it up if you really wanted it that badly. If it wasn’t for my kids being hungry after reading the menu and excited to go out to eat for the first time in 7months, I probably would have left the moment the hair showed...
Read more[EDITED REVIEW BELOW] Food is terrible so I have to give 1 star unfortunately…have gotten takeout twice and the first time I ordered penne vodka which was bad but I gave them the benefit of the doubt because who orders pasta at a bar SO I ordered the chicken sandwich the second time and it was simply a chicken cutlet between 2 buns with a sauce…a CHICKEN CUTLET? I could have made that. I thought I was gonna get a real breaded and fried chicken sandwich but idk anyway the food is terrible
EDIT 1 year later: I went back here for the Bills v Ravens playoff game and I immediately regretted my bad review. I loved the vibes. It reminded me of my hometown dive bar because the ACTUAL GAME SOUND was on! Finally a Hoboken bar that doesn’t mute the football game so we can actually watch and listen to it. ALSO THE PRETZEL WAS SO GOOD??? I do still stand by my previous comments of the pasta and the chicken sandwich being bad but idc I will be back because I love a place where I can watch the game.
However they close at 9:00pm on sundays and did last call DURING the game. That confuses me because isn’t it a sports bar? Like will they close early even for Super...
