Iâve already left one review back in February about a disturbing experience here, and I never thought Iâd have to write another. But after what happened on March 30, I canât stay silent.
In February, my fiancĂ© and I came in for dinner. The bartender pressured usâespecially meâinto taking a shot, even after we explained that I was recovering from heart surgery and on medication. I only went along with it to avoid a scene. It was reckless and completely out of line.
Still, I decided to give the place one more chanceâbecause I used to love it.
On March 30, we came back. The place was emptyâjust my husband (a white man) and me (a Black woman). We sat at the bar, and the bartender this time was respectful and kind. But when I asked where the bathroom was and walked toward it, a blonde Hispanic (at the back of the bar near the bathroom)hostess loudly called out, âExcuse me, excuse me, the bathroom is for paying customers only.â
I was shocked. I turned around and said, âI am a paying customer.â My husband was stunnedâhe hadnât been questioned or stopped. She didnât apologize, didnât say a word. Just turned away.
Thatâs two visits in a row where Iâve been made to feel targeted, disrespected, and unsafeâfirst being pushed to drink after a serious surgery, and now being racially profiled and humiliated in an empty restaurant.
My husband was ready to blow this up online, even pay to have articles written about the discrimination and disrespect. But I told him noâthat Iâd leave another review and give you the chance to make it right.
Because this place used to be a staple in the neighborhoodâand it would be a shame to see it ruined under new management. But if this is how customers are treated now, especially Black women, then something has gone seriously wrong.
I truly hope this review prompts change. Because Iâand many othersâdeserve better and otherr people may not be as kind...

Read moreArrived Tuesday April 29th 4.05pm - told manager hasn't shown up to work yet so they can't open. Said they'd be at least another 30 mins. So we went across the street to Happy Hour in Madison instead.
Decided to give it another try the following day (hoping manager will be professional that day and open at the stated time), we sit down outside, beside a Happy Hour sign "$6 Margs, $5 Beers". Order margs, food etc. An hour in to our meal the sign was taken away and 5 mins later put back with HAND WRITTEN words saying "at the bar" at the bottom. (At this stage our party had been served 10 margs). Of course check comes and $12 margs charged each. THIS SORT OF PRACTICE TELLS YOU ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ESTABLISHMENT.
Manager originally tells staff to not honor the sign that was there when we sat, and to charge full price. We asked to speak to her (blonde lady), she eventually comes to table tells us no, "its assumed it's at the bar only" (yet half way through meal decided to write it on the sign......hmmmm). She said customers the previous day had issue with it too (why not change sign then?). Anyway finally honored the happy hour but experience ruined by then with having to argue our rights with a manager that has a bit on an attitude and rude to be frank, food decidedly average as well.
If you want a FAR superior Happy hour go to Madison Bar and Grill or City Bistro right beside this place. Given word of mouth in Hoboken, I'd give this place another 3 months...
