If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I apologize in advance for the length of this review, but I felt the need to explain in detail. I went there today (Tuesday) to celebrate my brother's 21st birthday. I asked the waiter what the happy hour specials were, and he said that all drinks and appetizers were half off after 4pm. There's also a box on the bottom left hand corner of the lunch menu that says "drinks and apps half price after 4pm." I ordered a beer and my brother ordered two "specialty" drinks. We also ordered one appetizer in addition to our main courses. While all of this was happening, we switched to a female waiter because the male waiter's shift ended. When we received the bill, we realized that they charged us full price for the two speciality drinks and the appetizer. We approached our female waitress, and she said only beers and wines are half off- not specially drinks or apps. My brother and I asked her to honor what the first waiter told us and have this be reflected in an updated bill, and she said she would have to speak to the manager. A few minutes later, a woman (who did not introduce herself by name or position) came up to us and said there was nothing she could do. When we asked her who she was, she said her name was Gina and that she was the manager. She was immediately very rude and unhelpful. We told her that her menus clearly state the "drinks and apps are half off after 4pm" and she proceeded to tell us we were wrong. I asked her to bring me over a menu and I showed her and then she said "oh... I don't know why it says that... That's wrong." So instead of honoring what her menu says, she stuck to the original bill. We were asking her some questions and then she said "UGH I can't deal with people like this, you can deal with them" (speaking to our waitress). She then proceeded to walk away from my brother and I while we were speaking, and left the restaurant to walk around the block. I have never experienced anyone, let alone a manager, speak to me like this at a restaurant and then storm off like a child. The experience was completely horrific and I would never go back. The waitress even came over and apologized and said "I'm so sorry, I've been a waitress for over 15 years and I've never seen a manager act like this." When Gina returned from her walk, my brother asked who works above her so we could speak to them in regards to her poor attitude and work ethic. She replied "there's no one but me. My brother owns the place, so good luck." Honestly, I was beyond horrified. I actually began crying at one point because I've never been treated so poorly. It got so bad that one of the bartenders actually came out and apologized for everything as well. Truly an awful experience and I would never return. Ruined my brother's 21st birthday celebrations as well. The place definitely needs a new manager with a far better people skills. She is single-handedly responsible for the loss of a...

If I could give this joke of a restaurant 0 stars, I would. My friend and I came here last night hoping to have a great experience. We were so wrong. Right when we walk in, we were coldly greeted and I immediately felt a strange vibe. We wanted to sit on the rooftop and no one brought us upstairs to a table, which was the first red flag. We get to our table and sit next to where the waitresses stand. We wait about 15 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us. Meanwhile she's literally standing right in front of us. Her service skills were absolutely horrible, she comes to us and says "hi what do you want." Girl, I don't even know your name yet and I just opened the menu. The whole night we had to make our waitress acknowledge us because she wouldn't check up on us. We asked for water, we never got it. We had to ask the other waitress who was so much nicer. Drinks are overpriced and watered down. I made it super clear that I want a veggie burger. Our food comes and It looked like a beyond burger, until I take a bite and its meat. I do not eat meat. I tell the waitress that my order is wrong and she starts laughing with her coworker about it acting as if I'm not right in front of her. Are you serious? I ended up getting the veggie burger which was not good either. My friend and I were so uncomfortable the whole time. We THEN wait for 20 minutes just for our waitress, who is flirting with her coworker and is on her phone, to bring us the check. We just wanted to get out of there. We FINALLY pay the bill, I paid $16 for a mojito. We went to the bathroom after and it was a disaster. Garbages overflowing with used tampons.....The only toilet paper was on the floor. I hope people will read these reviews and come to their senses to not support this restaurant. It was truly a disgusting and...

The staff had zero understanding of what "vegan" looked like. According to their staff, having cheese or dairy was still considered vegan. For context, multiple items on thier menu are identified with two v's "vv" to show they are vegan. One "v" signified vegetarian. The items in question, the cauliflower croquettes and the Vegetable Lasagna both had the label of "vv" which indicated they were vegan. Two out of Four of our party are vegan and we saw the menu before hand online before making reservations through Resy. Once we determined that was where we wanted to eat, we submitted for our reservations. Once arriving, we order the cauliflower croquettes for an appetizer and two orders of the Vegetable Lasagna, since they were labeled as vegan. However, the waitress returned to say that none of the options were vegan. She later said she will ask the chefs what they have that is vegan. 3 to 5 minutes pass and she returns to inform us that nothing on the menu was vegan or they had any vegan options to be made in house or nothing could be modified to be made vegan, like the veggie burger. Disappointed and mislead by false advertising, we informed the staff we had half a party of vegans and we choose this place because of the menu options. We told them it wouldn't be fair for us to remain when our party wouldn't fully eat and it was completely unfair. Therefore, we promptly left to another restaurant that was more understanding and accommodating. And most importantly, did not falsely advertise. End of the story, if you are vegan or even vegetarian, STAY AWAY. They advertise as vegetarian or vegan friendly but they are not, in any way whatsoever. The staff had zero interest in helping us to find solutions to eat, nor had any indication to be friendly about...

I think I found my new spot for chicken sammies. My BF and I came in for brunch one Saturday at around 1:30. The place was pretty dead (not that I'm complaining), but it was also Labor Day weekend. We had been in once for happy hour drinks, so we figured we'd come back and try some of the good, and I'm happy we did. We ordered Lemon Ricotta Pancakes (berry compote, whipped cream, maple syrup) only it didn't come with berry compote. I guess they ran out because it looked like they just threw some strawberries and pineapples on there. Even so, the actual pancakes were great. They were warm and fluffy, with just the right amount of lemon flavor. For my entree, I went with the grilled chicken sandwich (provolone, pancetta, roasted peppers, arugula, garlic aioli, ciabatta, french fries). I'm usually iffy about ciabatta bread because I haven't had very good ones in the past. But this one was so good - it was perfectly toasted on the outside but soft on the inside. The chicken was also perfectly cooked and the flavors from the other ingredients blended well together. I especially liked the garlic aioli. The fries were a bit too crispy for my preference, but they're fries - even a bad fry is a good fry. He went with the burger and they cooked it medium rare, like he ordered. The pancakes were pretty filling so we were only able to eat half of our respective entrees. I had my chicken sammie the next day, and it was still pretty bangin'. Will def be back! Plus, it looks like they have a pretty good rotating draft beer selection.

First off, City Bistro is (in normal times) a great drinking spot. The rooftop is always a great time especially in warm weather (although I must admit the TV management could be improved by making sure the best games are playing, but that’s a personal issue that I can get over). Id argue it’s the best happy hour spot in the city. I’ve been here to eat twice now, first time for dinner on a whim and most recently brunch. I’ve been pleasantly surprised both times. Brunch with a friend this weekend was excellent. He ordered the French toast which was soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside thanks to the cornflakes. I opted for the burger and it was excellent. I like a classic burger and that’s exactly what this was. Brioche bun, shredded lettuce, red onion, juicy tomato, melted cheese, and a pickle spear as the proverbial cherry on top. Sweet potato fries were above average too. We also put down a few mimosas a piece because, well, brunch. I can confidently say that City Bistro has one of the better burgers in Hoboken.

This was a great place to have a bite & calm drink in the sun! The food was wonderful & I highly suggest the Crostini’s ( ricotta one was amazing ) we also ordered the tiki wings, old world pizza & Cesar salad. All were delicious! A beer and vodka club to wash it down && call it a day. The atmosphere is fun & hip. Ample amount of places to sit indoor and outdoor. Go early for your spot at the bar on the roof. Only about a 15 minute wait for a table on the roof. They played some good music on the roof as well. Attentive bartenders & servers as well. Definitely a fun place to pop into too!!!!
