Updating my review:

I’ve been a loyal customer for years, first visiting the Manhattan location and now frequenting the Hoboken branch since moving here. I love the food and often order takeout, but my recent experiences dining in have been disappointing.

On two occasions, my husband and I felt unwelcome dining in. The first time, we arrived 45 minutes before closing, only to be told we couldn’t sit inside despite other customers being allowed to. We accepted it and ordered to-go.

The second time was even more frustrating. It was a quiet Sunday, and the restaurant was empty. When I moved seats to sit next to my husband, the same staff member as before approached us, saying we couldn’t switch tables “in case it got busy.” The place was empty, and this seemed unreasonable. I even asked him if he was serious, but he insisted we couldn’t sit together.

I appreciate the food and the convenience of living nearby, but being treated this way was disappointing, especially as a loyal customer who often orders from them. The owner and one staff member with piercings have always been kind, but the Spanish guy and the asian lady that start front desk that I encountered made us feel unwelcome.

I don’t expect special treatment, but I hope they can offer the same warm experience to all their guests.

——- older review: I love this restaurant for ramen noodles; both locations Hoboken and Manhattan, are amazing. The takeout...

Finally tried Shokudo one Wednesday evening via UberEats for pickup. Our order was ready before the original quoted time. Here is everything we ordered:

Flank Yakitori - this was the best skewer out of the ones we got. Flank has a reputation for being tough but this was definitely not the case here

Galbi Yakitori - this was actually a bit tough so I didn't love this one

Chicken Meatball Yakitori - the flavor was good but overall, it was a bit dry

Momo (chicken thigh) Yakitori - pretty good; you usually can't go wrong with chicken thigh

Spicy Pork Bun - I'm not a huge bao bun fan in general, so I thought this was only okay. I thought the pork would be chunks or slices but it had more of a pulled pork consistency, which I didn't love

Pork Donburi - this was basically just the spicy pork bun filling over rice

Spicy Miso Ramen - I really enjoyed this. What all of the reviews are saying about how amazingly packaged this was, are absolutely correct. The noodles come in a little tray that rests just above the broth. Because of this, the noodles don't get soggy but the steam from the broth still keeps it slightly warm so that when you add it to the broth, it's not one giant clump of noodles. I didn't love the cha siu (maybe it's just something about the pork here) but liked everything else about this dish

Next time, I want to...

Let me tell you I had a wonderful experience here! My brother and I walked literally all of hoboken to get here and it was so worth it! I had my tiny maltese with me and they were so accommodating! The owners were so friendly and kind to us even letting us sit inside once it started raining a bit. Not too far inside just like away from the rain and we all had such nice conversations 💕

They made us feel so welcome and really made sure we had everything we needed!

I think the gentleman's name was George or Jorge who took care of us he was so nice I hope they give him a raise he even recommended some local ice cream! So friendly and helpful and just such a nice guy I love how kind he was to us man there isn't good service these days it's nice to have people be nice and just talk to us!

Now the food was absolutely delicious 😋 we had the ramen and it was so amazing the pork had a smokey taste to it and it is so much food my brother couldn't finish his and I forced myself to finish it and I was full all day my belly was huge! 10/10 best ramen I've ever had 🥺

I cant wait to go back 😩 I feel like I've found my little spot. I can't wait to try other items on the menu but honestly just the vibe was so friendly and nice it was enough to get me out the house and worth the walk from...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars – Ramen Cravings Crushed, Service Level: Chris! 🍜 Second time at Shokudo, and once again, my ramen-loving soul left happy and extra full. Let’s get straight to the star of this visit — Chris, our server, who deserves an entire Michelin star for service alone! The man greeted us with a huge smile, was warm, friendly, and so on point, I felt like royalty without even lifting a finger. Water? Already refilled. To-go boxes? Magically appeared. Dessert? He asked before I could even peek at the menu. Chris is the definition of proactive service with impeccable timing and grace. Honestly, if more servers had his level of attention and heart, the world would be a better-fed, happier place. Kudos to you, Chris — you didn’t just satisfy my tonkotsu ramen and edamame, you elevated the whole dining experience. Edamame? As a must as always! A great way to start. And the ramen? Flavorful, rich, and served in a glorious bowl big enough to share (unless you’re like me and “accidentally” finish it solo). Pro tip: add the extra egg — always. I’ll definitely be back for the ramen. 😋🤤 Okay fine, for Chris too — ohhh I mean… the ramen. Wink.😉 Highly recommend. 10/10. Slurps guaranteed.
