I am a brewery lover and had never been to New Holland Brewery but have tried your beers on tap throughout Michigan. I was so excited when we came to the tulip festival to be able to experience your brewery first hand. My very first impression was TERRIBLE. Your host insisted seating us in a side room which was completely empty. My daughter had a broken leg and was on a knee scooter so we needed a low top table. Now the 2 guests that arrived immediately before us got sat in your main bar area so we were a little confused when she told us there was only one server so we HAD to sit in the other area. First off I have been in the restaurant business for over 30 years and saw at least 8 employees moving throughout the area and multiple servers taking orders table side. So we explained to her that we weren't very comfortable sitting in empty room by ourselves we would like to wait and sit in the bar area. She huffed and puffed and eventually she sat us at a clean table, one of many clean tables. Immediately following us getting a table we saw her sit at least 3 more tables around us. So why single us out and try to force us to sit in a dining area we told her multiple times we would wait it was ok but wanted to wait for the bar area dining. The ONLY reason you received 2 stars is because our waitress (who by the way was 1 of 3 I saw taking orders around us) was fantastic and saved the day along with the food which was delicious. I have been to over 200 breweries and the first initial reaction was top 3 worst first impressions. I don't appreciate my daughter with a broken leg and knee scooter feeling segregated because of her injury because that is exactly what it felt like since guests were seated before and after us in the same area we were told we couldn't sit. Do better. Be...

Suggested tips include retail purchases (like crowlers/growlers etc) which is nuts.
Elote corn dip is blah. It could be really great if it were made with a robust southwest-style roasted corn/peppers/onion mix, or if it had some good seasoning mixed into it, or some sharper cheeses, or maybe just some liquid smoke and more salt. The menu said it's made with roasted corn, green chiles and cilantro; ours was served with a couple small decorative cilantro leaves on top, no discernible green chiles, and plain (not roasted) corn. It tasted like bagged corn and cream cheese - not terrible, just blah.
The pulled pork sandwich is good if you like their unusual bbq sauce (which contains some of their signature stout beer) but if you don't like the sauce you're out of luck; unlike the Grand Rapids location, the Holland location pre-mixes it into the pork. (I like it, but my wife - who orders pulled pork nearly every time we go out to eat - hated it.)
The "Cajun" pork sandwich is lousy. Sliced pork loin has very little flavor and is dry/chewy - and they didn't use seasonings or marinade to change that... The au jus served with the sandwich is even less flavorful (It was definitely the blandest au jus I've ever tasted, even at fast food restaurants). This sandwich could be so.much.better with very little effort.
Service was fine but as I mentioned before, the suggested tips include after-meal retail purchases. You're expected to instantly push a percentage-based tip option, right in front of your server, on digital tablets... That leaves little opportunity to think it through, and no time to recognize that the suggested tip counts the entire purchase (including retail) and not just the...
Read moreIt is always a good time at New Holland Brewery! Although popular this a bit longer wait the food and atmosphere are worth it. Being downtown Holland there are plenty of locations to spend our wait time at. We went to Out of the Box and The Peanut Store. We didn't get anything at Out of the Box but there is plenty to choose from. We did get some sweets at The Peanut Store. And of course warming at the fireplace is a great feature downtown Holland! Once our table was ready we were given waters and time to make our selections. After ordering we had time to catch up and even was able to see an old friend. I had the Reuben with fries. I are all the fries and part of the sandwich, saving the rest for lunch tomorrow. My wife had the tomato bisque soup and grilled cheese sandwich. It was so good it was all eaten. Our eldest son had the pickle pizza minus bacon. He too enjoyed it all. Our middle, daughter, had pepperoni pinwheels. The was some much she was able to bring some home as well. Our youngest had a double cheeseburger. It was gone by the end of dinner. The server was quick and attentive! We only had water but their beer is great!
