Mellow Mushroom Holly Springs — Restaurant in Holly Springs

Decided to try Mellow Mushroom in hopes that they'd worked out all the kinks. I think they're almost there. We arrived shortly after 5 pm on Sunday and we were seated immediately. Our order was taken: meatball appetizer, kids cheese pizza, and a large Merry Prankster pizza. The appetizer came out 8 minutes after we ordered. The kids cheese pizza came out a minute later. Now, I know some parents purposely ask that their child's meal be brought out ASAP so they can eat, but we're not one of those people. In fact, we ordered the appetizer specifically for our child to help hold them over until the food came out. While they were thrilled that the kids pizza came out quickly, we ran into a small problem when our pizza didn't come out until 30 minutes after ordering (21 minutes after the kids meal came out): our child had finished eating everything that they were interested in eating well before our pizza came out, and once our food arrived, they were antsy and ready to leave. All in all, not a major problem, but something we'll keep in mind the next time we visit. The Merry Prankster pizza was delicious. Crispy crust, soft airy inside, pretty good toppings.

Shout out to our waiter, the bartender, who was working the full bar and 3 other tables. He was taking orders, refilling drinks, and bussing plates. I was shocked that he was doing all of this when there were 4-5 other workers hanging out at the pass, either talking with each other or scrolling on their phones. Not sure if they were all just food runners, but when you are taking your bartender away from behind the bar to collect plates and refill drinks, something anyone can do, you're potentially losing revenue from not selling and serving more drinks.

All in all, we'll likely be back in the future when we're in the mood for a specialty pizza. Hopefully they'll have refined a bit more of their...

I was genuinely thrilled when I found out Mellow Mushroom was opening in Holly Springs. I had high hopes, especially since I’ve enjoyed other locations in the past. Unfortunately, this particular spot has been a complete and ongoing disappointment. I’ve really tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. I understand that new restaurants need time to get up to speed, but they’ve been open long enough now that there’s simply no excuse for the consistently poor experience they’re delivering.

Every visit has left me frustrated, and frankly, shocked at how low the quality is. The food is bland, poorly prepared, and nowhere near the standard you'd expect from a chain with a solid reputation. And for the prices they’re charging? It’s absolutely unacceptable. The food is way too expensive to be this bad. I’m not talking about one off-day or a single bad order…. this has been the case every single time I’ve gone. It’s been an epic disappointment, over and over again.

It honestly feels like this location just doesn’t care. Whether it’s the lackluster food, slow service, or just a general sense of disorganization, the whole experience falls flat. I kept going back hoping it would improve, but at this point, I’m done. I’ve given them more than enough chances.

Sadly, I won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend this location to anyone. Save your money and your time.

I really wish I could give this Mellow a better star rating. I’ve held off rating since they opened. Unfortunately, the quality of food does not correlate with the prices charged. Tonight, we ordered a medium meatball pizza, and this is what arrived—a small handful of meatballs scattered across the pizza. In other recent instances, we’ve experienced the kitchen leaving BBQ sauce off the Funky Q (a signature part of that dish), and repeated instances where they’ve made mistakes dealing with dairy allergies (despite very clear instructions). In most instances, we order cheeseless pizzas and ask for heavier toppings. Without fail, we end up paying $40 for a pizza with truly scant toppings, and have talked with management. We love the flavor of Mellow pizzas and have had great experiences elsewhere. This Mellow is struggling to live up to the quality/cost expectations. The servers and management are nothing but friendly, but that doesn’t produce a satisfying dinner. Please, Mellow, fix these issues. We want to come back and...
