Bok Bok Baby Buriram (BBBB) is Chef Onanong Insamran Copelenko's restaurant on the main drag of Hollywood Blvd (2051A Hollywood Blvd.) You know her from her food stall at Yellow Green Market.
It was previously a Korean restaurant named “Bok Bok Baby.” She decided to keep the sign, but that is all that is left of the original concept.
In my estimation, it is the most hardcore Thai restaurant in South Florida right now. Very few typical or boilerplate items are on the menu, so it is not for beginners or people who have never been exposed to Thai food before.
Saying that this Thai restaurant is the most hardcore and authentic is a strong statement even for me, especially since we have some very good places now, like Larb Thai Isan and Kan’s Thai Kitchen in Fort Lauderdale and Just Thai in Deerfield Beach. But it is really that serious a Thai place.
The menu consists of street food dishes from her hometown of Buriram, which is in Isan (northeast Thailand). The food is very spicy by default, so don't order anything above medium unless you have a death wish.
We ordered a lot of stuff. The “Tum Tum” salad section on the second page has a lot of raw seafood, so if you have hangups about eating raw crab, shrimp, clams, and oysters, I would go for one of the regular ones. But if you like ceviche-type dishes, by all means.
We got a spicy oyster salad with her homemade pickled fish sauce and crispy fried onion. It is outstanding, but you need to be a fan of raw oysters.
Oh, and if you don’t like fish sauce (!!!!) and funky flavors, this place is not for you.
Thai Isan sausage is the real deal, although On’s is less fermented than Larb Thai. This is not a bad thing because the sour flavor can be overpowering if you aren't used to it. It's a great appetizer to start with, and you can munch on raw vegetables, herbs, and pieces of raw Thai bird chile.
Get some beers because you’re gonna need them.
The Pad Kaprow (holy basil sauce) stir fry is excellent and easily one of the best I've had locally.
Moo Ping, or grilled pork, is super juicy and flavorful. It comes with an excellent “jeaw” dipping sauce.
Morning Glory (water spinach) sauteed in an oyster sauce with thai bird chiles is an excellent vegetable dish, but it will bite you unless you order it without the chiles.
The crispy pork (pork belly) and crab noodles are a twist on ba mee moo deng, and it’s terrific. However, as it is a dry noodle, ask for extra dressing or sauce.
Honestly, I would have loved to have ordered more stuff, but it was just the two of us. It would be ideal if you could bring some friends. They even have a large community table for an extra large party or those who don’t mind...
Read moreEdit: I received a refund and great customer service after going back to the restaurant to discuss with the manager. Although I would definitely have preferred to be able to call and talk to someone since I was really sick, I would give them another chance in the future possibly just based on how well they handled the situation.
OP: I have eaten here many times since they opened, I even went on their opening day. I’ve brought every out of town friend here and their food has always been amazing. I made a TikTok recommending them that has thousands of views and bookmarks. The atmosphere is cute and the staff WAS and we amazing the first few months they were open. My only issue ever was that they pushed you to try drinks even after you asked for water which was never brought to the table but I know they have really unique drinks so I get It. I was Obsessed with this place until last night when I brought my best friend from out of town and my boyfriend. I was So excited to show her the food and how cool this place was. The food tasted good and we had a pretty nice time despite the waitress being very inattentive even though there was only one other table taken. When we got home we all got violently sick with food poisoning for the rest of the night through the next morning and the rest of our plans for her trip before she had to leave were ruined. I’ve never had such intense food poisoning before and I suspect It was due to trying their new octopus waffle appetizer. I’m really disappointed and embarrassed since the check was about $40 a person. I’ve tried to call their number for a refund all day but the number on Google and Apple Maps constantly says it’s unavailable or busy and...
Read moreWe went here when it was originally a Korean restaurant but now it’s re-opened as a Thai place and I am so glad we decided to give it another try. We absolutely love Thai food and finding an authentic spot right in Hollywood is a dream come true. One of the owners is actually from Thailand and you can tell from how delicious the food was.
We started with the Papaya Salad (Som Tum), which is one of my favorite things to order and it did not disappoint. So fresh, well-seasoned, and the medium spice level was spicy but I thankfully still have my tastebuds intact.
The crab fried rice was generously portioned and made even yummier with the side sauce and spice caddy they have available.
The star for me was the chicken Pad See Ew, definitely going to be a regular order for me!
The mango sticky rice with ice cream is like something straight out of a food challenge with its size and it was a great way to end the meal.
Drinks are reasonably priced, some great Thai beers and the two Thai iced teas they have are great. Got to try a variation with lemonade instead of milk and it might be my new go to, which is insane because I love the traditional Thai iced tea.
Staff is all so friendly and welcoming. Came a little later on a Saturday and it was easy to get a seat (for now!). Parking can be a challenge but we found a garage a few blocks down that was easier and cheaper than all the street parking.
100% will be back and love this new addition to the Hollywood area. Thanks for...
