I thought my favorite Kava Bar resided in Miami, FL. Well, I drove up 30 minutes and discovered quite the Twist to that presumption.
Right off of Dixie Highway and right SPLACK in the middle Hollywood, FL - I found the modest entry to what the Kava Community calls "Twisted Roots".
Upon opening the Front Door - (which looks like a restored, 19th Century Submarine part!) - you are welcomed into a lively library of Authentic and Lively trinkets.
To the right, there is a Bookshelf that houses research studies on the Kava Root, coloring books, table games, and more!
To the left. is a large Wood/Resin mix bar, beneath a row of Descending Tibetan Shells.
There's a furnace, cracked wall pipes, a functioning rainforest, and dank drank at Twisted Roots.
RECOMMENDATIONS: For Health: A "VIRGIN" HYDRA: This hydrating masterpiece is perfect for all occasions. Low on fluid? Drink the Hydra. Feeling sad? Drink the Hydra. Hangover? Drink the Hydra. Just finished running a few miles? Drink the Hydra. You get the vibes.
For a Good, Energized Time: A "MITRAJITO". Who needs the dated and liver negligent Mojito, when you can have a high quality concoction, spiked with high quality, full-spectrum Mitragyna Speciosa extract? The Mitrajito is a crowd favorite. Come on by, to find out why.
For TRADITION: A shell of Kava. Bula Baby! Pay homage to the Plant Tribe with a communal shell. It's great to ease cramping during the Moon Cycle. Having trouble sleeping? A shell or three can help. Depressed? This can help. Wanna replace smoking nasty, deathly cigarettes with something historically medicinal? Have a Kava shell.
Finally, Twisted Roots creates all of their flavored syrups, daily - using a myriad of ingredients and organic cane sugar. Even the lime juice they use in-house, is organic. The communal aspect is organic. The Karaoke, Open Mic, and Special Events they organize are organic and authentically curated. They are organically amazing and I look forward to seeing y'all there.
There is not enough space in this section to paint how beautiful this entity is.
With Love, Nad Pitt
P.S. Twisted Roots wouldn't be Twisted if it weren't for the personalities taking care of the space. Great Team. Great Management. Great Shareholders.
Edit: A year later and I still...

“In sociology, the ‘third place’ refers to the social surroundings that are separate from the two usual social environments of home ("first place") and the workplace ("second place"). Examples of third places include churches, cafes, bars, clubs, libraries, gyms, bookstores, hackerspaces, stoops, parks, theaters, among others.”
This excerpt is taken from Wikipedia, and it describes to me most accurately what twisted roots has become for myself, my group of friends who I never go without, and the regulars that I have seen the majority of my 6 visits to this cozy kava brewery.
After visiting for the first time about a month and a half ago, it struck me that the concept of a “Third Place” was exactly what came to mind when I had to try to find the words to describe the venue in which I had spent the last 3 hours in, laughing with friends, enjoying phenomenal beverages, listening to music being played over the speakers that I thought only I knew existed just to look around and see the Bartenders and other patrons singing along word for word, and in total, gave me a sense of belonging.
It’s not often I’ve visited many places of business and left eager to return my next day off with friends for a night of memories. And in fact, It has been my single greatest complaint as someone who has grown up locally for the past 19 years that the majority of things to do this side of the county would revolve around being 21+ and involve the sale and consumption of Alcohol, until I found Twisted Roots
If your someone who has heard of this place enough to read the reviews, but have not yet gone in and are looking for a sign, here’s your sign 🪧. Go in with friends, or go in by yourself. They have community tables and seats where you will no doubt find some of the nicest strangers to bump into. And even if your not the most conversational person but still like a fun night out, on their Instagram and on a calendar on your immediate left side on the wall when you first enter the building, you’ll find a list of events going on for your month. Live bands, comedy, open mic nights, and more

Read moreTwisted is an amazing 'tea bar' and social experience for the whole family.
Located on the Hollywood strip around some great food options (which you are welcome to eat here), its calm exterior hides an astounding cultural experience inside.
The inside is a cross between a Disney ride and the set of an Indiana Jones movie. It's atmospheric, moody, vibrant and extremely emotionally comfortable. It's always so interesting to watch people wander in for the first experience, and see their eyes widen. A treat for the senses that doesn't ever get old.
The tea and drinks offered here are always imaginative, and there are many drink theme nights throughout the year. Halloween is my favorite. They have flavors for all tastes, it's non-alcoholic, but there are some interesting teas!
What makes Twisted so very special is the people you meet here. It's a wonderful blend of all kinds of different peoples from all walks of life. There's great music, games, conversation and vibes. It's a family place, and all are welcome, no judgement.
This is all tied together by the wonderful staff who you quickly get to know, and they get to know you. They know your name, and they know how you like your drink. If you're having a rough day, they'll pick you up. It's a tricky task for a bar to get the right kind of staff who can juggle a story and a syrup bottle at the same time. Twisted has a phenomenal bar team and it's hard to imagine the place without any of them.
Come on by and say hello. You'll meet some...
