I’m going to write this review in two languages so it’s not missed by any person that might decide to go here. If I could review this place with negative stars I would and believe me they after the treatment we got we will be looking to pursue legal action against this restaurant. My mother and I came in today to have lunch after a long flight. My mother, and senior citizen who needs a service dog everyday and who has documentation to prove it as well as prove her dog is a service dog, came in first with the dog. The man behind the counter refused her first site and when my mom told him the dog was a service dog he aggressively requested the documentation. Fine, she provided it and then the man told her to go sit in the furthest corner ( again aggressively) of the room. My mom sat down in the table of her choosing (as the law states that the owner of any establishment can not discriminate against her based on a disability) and the man came and refused her service. My mom then requested said guys name and he refused to give it and followed her out of the restaurant. I don’t recommend this disgusting and discriminatory place to any living being. These people are the lowest of the low and hope they never have to face a disability that would cause them to be discriminated against in this way.
Read moreI’ve been a regular customer at Calienita Colombiano because the food is genuinely great. However, my recent experience over the phone was extremely disappointing and unacceptable from a customer service standpoint.
On July 8, I called to place a takeout order. A Spanish-speaking woman answered the phone without identifying herself. I asked what the lunch specials were, and she mentioned lomo saltado and grilled chicken. Curious, I asked how they prepare lomo saltado, since it’s traditionally a Peruvian dish. She said it was a guiso of pork, tomatoes, and onions which already confused me, since that’s not the usual preparation.
I decided to order the grilled chicken special, which comes with soup. I asked what kind of soup, and she mentioned chicken and campesino. I asked her what campesino soup was, and her response was dismissive telling me I was calling a Colombian restaurant, as if I didn’t know that. I asked her multiple times for her name, and she ignored me while repeatedly saying, “Hello, you’re calling a Colombian restaurant,” instead of simply answering my question or clarifying the soup.
At this point, I switched to English since I felt she was using my Spanish as an excuse to be rude. I asked again about the soup, and she vaguely said it was “pork with vegetables,” but gave no further detail. When I asked to speak to a manager, she put a supervisor on the phone, who I later met in person and who kindly informed me that the woman’s name was Cindy.
When I went in person to place the order, I spoke to the supervisor. She was very professional and apologized for how Cindy handled the call. She even confirmed that staff should identify themselves when answering phone calls, which Cindy did not do.
As a Cuban customer who doesn’t know all Colombian dishes, I was simply trying to understand what I was ordering. Instead of providing clarity, Cindy responded with attitude and condescension. I’m not asking for free food—I’m a paying, loyal customer just trying to place a proper order. I’m also happy to speak Spanish when needed, but no one should be disrespected or insulted for asking questions especially in a country where English is the primary language of service.
Again, the food at Calienita Colombiano is excellent. But the customer service from Cindy was absolutely unprofessional and needs people skills. I hope management takes this seriously, because no one should feel humiliated for asking about...
