tl;dr VISIT: GOOD food and beer options in a welcoming vibe.
FINALLY got here. I used to live on this side of town but this place opened after we'd moved.
SAT 29 MAR, ~8p arrival. DJ. Food: In haus. Weather: 70F, dry
Vibe: Family, lotsa kids, very welcoming. German bier haus feel. Larger space, lots of tables. My group was in the outdoor space adjacent wherewas the DJ.
SITREP I was there w/ a meetup, older demographic. Moderate # of people inside; outside was full, not packed.
I went inside to get bevvie and food.
One star off for my being invisible for ~15 min and lesser so later. I sat inside next to the beer window and 3 different servers went by me to attend to people coming to window. There was no line; these people had come to window since I'd been there.
Finally, I must have materialized and 4th server saw me. I spoke w/ two servers and the owner. Once they got to me, they were very friendly and helpful.
Food: I got there late, but they did squeeze in my Döner kebab order. Recommended: wood fired chix had delish subtleties.
They have spicy Schnitzel, which seems fairly unique for German food especially in Pittsburgh. I've lived in NYC, Bay Area and lotsa other places and embrace interesting fun dishes; this seems like something I should try.
Beers I tried: • Italian Pils 4.7% This was YUM. I may have had 1 beer in my last trip to Italy and it wasn't memorable (the Compari spritz, tho...). This was the highlight of my visit. RECOMMENDED.
• German Pilsner 5.1% As advertised, crisp and tasty. Simple, straightforward.
• Fastenbier 5.8% Not too smoky! Delish.
• Černé 13° 5.2% Went w/ this over the dunkel and very happy I did. Richly flavored. Next time, will do Italian pils, dunkel and this and...
Read morePhenomenal isn't enough of a word to describe this restaurant and brewery. The beer, food, and environment are exceptionally executed to detail, from the beer, to the menu, down to the golden bar taps and gilded cocktail mixers. So much is done right I don't know where to start!
The beer is, for lack of a better term, perfect. I may have some bias here as I a gravitate towards lagers, ales, and pilseners, but I must say, they have the BEST Kölsch that I've had in Pittsburgh. The Polish and Czech Lagers are choice, and the Australian Lager and classic Bock are the standard when it comes to these classic styles. What's most refreshing — no IPAs or frü frü "craft" beers. Don't get me wrong, I love a well executed craft beer, but it's nice to come to a brewery that has established itself on brewing some of the hardest styles of beers, mastering them and delivering grade A, delicious, smooth, and quite drinkable classic lagers and pilseners.
The food menu is paired to the beer, offering "beer food" from around the globe. From the classic American smash burger to Kimchi to Bone Marrow, the food is eclectic and phenomenal, providing a diverse array of flavours.
The environment is also as well as the beer and food. It's comfortable, and thoroughly thought out. It just "feels right". The marketing and branding, interior design, and both the interior and exterior are, well...perfect. It's casual yet formal, familiar yet foreign, old but new - a space that WANTS you to be there.
Overall: 6/5. It's been a long time since I've experienced something fresh and unique, and I'm excited to keep...

The Quick… Great, and I Do Mean GREAT Beer and a GREAT Price!
The building itself along with the outside design is open and inviting. The staff is very knowledgeable and quick to help.
The food goes perfect with the choices of beer… which is Amazing!
My personal Favorite is the:
Světlé 10° $6 Czech Pale Lager is the quintessential lager of Czechia. A simple showcase of floor-malted Bohemian Pilsner malt, balanced with floral and spice from the mighty Saaz hops. 4.3%
My Wife Loves the: Tent bier $6 Brewed here in Homestead in collaboration with our friends Chris & John Troegner of Tröegs Independent Brewing in Hershey, PA. We brewed this beer to be a weissbier similar to the ones you’d see in the tents in Munich at this time of year. It’s a drier, lower alcohol take on the big weissbiers that you associate with the Bavarian countryside. 5.0%
They often have music outside during the nice days and inside when not during the weekends and some nights.
I highly recommend you visit their website for a list of what’s on Tap/prices and visit the Untappd app for reviews.
I absolutely love this place and I don’t mind the drive, 30min city, because of the atmosphere.
Golden Age Beer Company just gets it RIGHT!
Grab your loved ones and friends and head to there...
