Being Latino, it is sometimes hard to find good “authentic” spots in Pittsburgh. My fiancée and me tried this spot today, and we got to say it’s good…for what it is.
To start off, the service was ‘alright.’ I say that because we heard them speaking Spanish but refused to speak Spanish to us. ( we obviously look Hispanic and speak Spanish amongst ourselves.) The waitress was back and forth, while we were the only guests, and flirted with another employee the entire time. Not only was this awkward but super uncomfortable as they talked about other people while also being cuddly. We got our chips and guacamole pretty fast but had to wait a good amount of time for our waters.
My partner got the 3 Birria Tacos. The consume was alright, we had to add some extra stuff to make it fit to our liking, but overall good. However the tacos were dry, old, and reheated. The tortilla wasn’t cooked all the way, and was stale in the middle. There was no cheese, only a sprinkle with the meat being extremely dry and reheated in some spots. The taco was dipped in oil and heated, you can tell my simply touching it and was served in a plate with one cherry tomato and one leaf of lettuce. ( that was actually I think for aesthetic lol )
I, however, got the fajita mix. The beans, like the tacos, were horribly reheated. There was a sprinkle of cheese on top that had yet to be heated up. The rice, on the other hand, was really good and seasoned to a tea. The fajitas themselves, were atrocious. The vegetables, while they had a good combination, were undercooked. The chicken and steak, had good seasoning but overwhelmed the shrimp which I only got ONE. To pay $20.00 and get one shrimp and overcooked steak and dry chicken was insane to me. The combination seemed to be cooked aside from the actual broth, which was just tossed on top and drenched the entire plate and rice while the food itself was dry.
Overall, the spot is near a nice area. It has a good atmosphere that is super cool but the food is mediocre. I won’t be returning, unless I have too, because to pay $40 for dry food and horrible service is insane when I can go get better fast food from Las Palmas.
If you come here, just make sure you try and get something with high seasoning if not you’ll end up getting dry...

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Los Gallitos in Pittsburgh, and I cannot say enough good things about this vibrant and delicious spot!
From the moment we sat down, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting with its colorful decor and friendly staff. The service was prompt and genuinely kind, which really made the experience even more enjoyable.
Now for the food — WOW. Every bite was bursting with authentic flavor! I ordered the birria tacos and they were nothing short of heavenly — perfectly seasoned beef, melted cheese, fresh pico de gallo, and the rich, savory consommé on the side took them to the next level. The presentation was beautiful and the flavor was unforgettable.
We also had chicken flautas that were equally amazing — crispy on the outside, packed with tender, flavorful meat on the inside, and topped with fresh lettuce, tomato, and crumbled cheese. Paired with fluffy Mexican rice and creamy refried beans, it was the kind of meal that leaves you full and happy.
The chips and queso were a fantastic starter, with the queso being smooth, creamy, and addicting — definitely some of the best I’ve had. Every element of the meal was clearly made with care and attention to flavor.
Los Gallitos is an absolute gem. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Pittsburgh, do yourself a favor and treat your taste buds to a meal here. I’ll definitely be coming back soon!

Read moreI had really high hopes for this place, but it just wasn't great. The prices were all a bit higher than other places in the area, which is fine if it's a better product. But, on top of that, you have to pay for water and it's $8 for chips. I got a carne asada burrito and my wife got three tacos. The burrito was 75% rice. I had to get creative to get a bite that actually had a good amount of meat and cheese in it as well because there wasn't much of it. Luckily the topping bar really boosted the general flavor of it up a bunch but it wasn't a good burrito. My wife said her tacos were good but that the chorizo was incredibly salty. We ordered churros for dessert. When they arrived, I asked if they came with anything to dip them in because they were really dense. Our server said that she didn't think they had anything but the churros should be stuffed. Of the 7 we got, 2 had a filling.
Overall, this spot could be good. It's a nice building but the food and the prices that are associated with what you actually get...
