Where to begin. I suppose with the number of things closed "for COVID safety" when they have opened up the area, no masks required. Why is the pool/hot tub closed? Why are they not cleaning rooms daily? Why is the breakfast area not open in the mornings? It's because they are cutting staff and saving money. "COVID safety" has nothing to do with it. If you are trusted to be vaccinated and able to not wear a mask, then why can't we use the pool? It's not like they have a lifeguard on duty. There's no breakfast option even close. The local starbucks (which is hard to get to, read later about the "no left turn" issue) doesn't even open until 8am. For those of us who need to be at a work location at that time, it isn't very helpful. For business travel, I like these amenities. Sure, I can live without them, but not when the hotel is charging full price for the rooms. My room wasn't clean. I found long hairs on the coffee maker. The bathtub had chips taken out of it. Not surprising when they simply don't clean the rooms. They posted signs saying I could request a room cleaning...but given how they staffed the place with one single manager, I don't see how. They also said to leave your garbage outside the room and it would be emptied for you. Mine was outside all 3 days of my stay and I left it still outside when I checked out. I had to go to the front desk to get additional coffee pods for the morning, having the housekeeping staff replenish that (and the coffee cups, and plastic cups!) is something I'm just used to. I don't like re-using the same paper coffee cup for a week in a row! My room didn't have a remote control for the TV! I searched every drawer, under the bed, in the closet. Thankfully the night manager found me a new one, but come on. I've never had that happen before in a hotel. While the window blinds keep light out great, the door itself has a big gap on the bottom and the peephole is basically a spotlight at night. Hotel needs to invest in peephole covers and some sort of door sweeper, I had to stuff a towel on the floor to try and limit how much light was coming in from the hallway. The location isn't great. Want to turn left out of the parking lot to go to the nearby shops? Sorry! You can't! Google Maps had me go right, and take a bizarre route through the Costco parking lot just to get to a place where a left turn was legal. For business travelers, I would strongly recommend a different location. The "gym" was just some dumbells and a couple treadmills. Typical for a hotel, I was able to make it work, but if more than one person wants to use the dumbells you are out of luck. I do want to be clear, that Patrick the night manager was great. It's clear he has been dealt a bad hand by ownership, with no additional staff and all of the amenities shut down. But he was responding to calls and helping all the customers out.

What a disappointment we experienced at this hotel this. The first room given (231), was horrible. There was mold growing on the wall outside of the shower and in the floor tiles. The shower is pulling from the wall, and didn’t even have a container of body soap in the shower. The toilet would start filling every 2 minutes or less. The wall in the room was gross. I don’t even want to speculate what that was on the wall, other than disgusting. We were then given room 412, which was an improvement in some ways. However, the walls in this room had something that previously ran down them and dried. Then there was the AC, which sounded like the roar of an engine every time it started up. Something is loose on the housing so it growls horribly from vibrations unless you hold the top of it down. That isn’t really possible to do all night while sleeping, so sleep was not good. In regards to staff, the gentleman who checked us in was polite and friendly. The evening staff member was gracious when I mentioned the issues in 231 and moved us to 412. However, follow through from the other staff was not there. We requested additional towels on the 29th in the morning. After about 2 hours, we requested them again. We picked them up from the front desk ourselves at about 10pm that night since there was no follow through from the other 2 staff who said they were getting them. Then there is our safety. The side doors of the building are taped to allow entry 24/7. I brought this to the staff’s attention and they said this was maintenance’s solution for an issue they are addressing. I was told me not to worry because the main front door was secured, but that doesn’t really make a lot of sense or change anything. I stay in Marriott properties 50-100 nights a year. This is one of the worst properties I have ever stayed in, so do yourself a favor and try any of the other neighboring properties.

For 220 a night I'd hope for at hotel experience. This place is TERRIBLE with motel vibes. Checked in, and there was no staff at the desk. Walked to the back and banged on the door. Still no one. 10 minutes later, someone comes down the hall and says they were helping another resident. Ok no problem but sketch as it was nearly midnight. Lobby was easily 80+ degrees, and this person said it was because someone had the fireplace on all day...in the buttcrack of summer... during this heatwave. Red flag Get to our room, and it smells so nasty. Imagine mildew and mothballs. The bathroom is disgusting with rust and digny stained tile and shower. Mildew on the wall mounted soap bottles (ironically) no ventilation and mildew around the actual shower head. The towels look like theyve been used 1000 times as they are thin and ragged. The sink faucet is basically just hanging there not secured to the vanity and the carpet is sticky...in the entire room...why is the entire carpet sticky?? Nasty brown stain on the chair. Decided to get some ice and a drink from vending and followed the signs that say "ice and vending"...lo and behold, there is a sign that says they are waiting on replacement ice machines oh and not a vending machine in sight. So, go down to the lobby in hopes of getting something from the market, and this person says... "Oh we don't have drinks because our cooler is out. We serve breakfast at 7 but it's not complimentary and will be charged to your room. " I 10/10 don't recommend. Marriot dropped the ball in this one.

I booked this hotel for a week. My first night, I woke up to use the bathroom, and slipped (but didn't fall) on the bathroom floor. It was water on the floor. After using the bathroom, I flushed and water came from under the toilet all over the floor! I had to place all of the towels on the floor to try and dry it up! Once morning came, I went downstairs to let the desk clerk know what was going on. I asked to be moved to another room. She said that they would have a room available after housekeeping clean. She put me in room 316, directly under 416 the room I was in. I checked to make sure there wasn't any water leaking from the room above, and it wasn't. I left the room after checking the bathroom, and didn't return until late evening. After taking a shower and relaxing in bed, I started itching. I ignored it. Around 4am, I had welts on my body. I couldn't stop scratching! I took another shower, but that didn't work. I sat up until later that morning, and went downstairs to explain what was going on, thinking it was probably the bedding. I asked her could she send someone to put fresh bedding on the bed, and clean the room and she said yes. When I came back that evening, I thought everything was ok, but I started itching again! I talked to management, and he gave me another room. I packed all of my stuff, and before I could go in the new room, I could smell the perfume in the hallway. I opened the door and the smell was horrible, like someone was trying to cover up smoking! I went back and told the manager, and he informed me that he had no more rooms available! He said if I wanted to go somewhere else, he would refund me for the remainder nights i was supposed to stay. He asked me what I thought he could have done better, and I told him that I shouldn't have been charged for the nights I stayed, because I was miserable! He said he would talk to the GM. I haven't heard anything from anyone at this hotel, or this company! My card was charged, and I'm left paying for a hotel stay that was horrible! This is poor customer care! The Marriott is supposed to be a great hotel, but this customer was very disappointed! I will NEVER stay at a Marriott again if this is how they treat...

I'm disappointed to share a negative review of the Courtyard Pittsburgh West Homestead Waterfront. I read a lot of mixed reviews before this trip, so I had hope that the hotel would not be as bad as some of the reviews. Unfortunately, the experience overall was not good. My husband and I stayed for three nights as part of a wedding group. I told him that if we had extra money and it would not offend the wedding party, I would have looked for a new hotel. The common areas look pretty well-kept and the Waterfront location is great -- plenty of shopping and restaurants and convenient to go to other locations around Pittsburgh. But our room was very worn. The carpet was torn in spots and the faucet handle on the tub/shower broke off completely. The towels are really cheap thin quality, as are the sheets. My bed was hard-used with two really deep depressions in the mattress from lots of guests. Housekeeping was in the 2nd day, and they replenished the towels but did not make the beds which I found really strange. Everything had that really strong hotel disinfectant smell, which if you have travelled as much as I have, you know well. The service was equally poor. The cafe offers breakfast but is very understaffed. My husband got an eggs and tots breakfast that he really enjoyed; so that was good. The cafe staff was friendly when you could find them. Our host arranged a group breakfast on Saturday and while we were really looking forward to it, we ended up leaving and going to Starbucks. There was little food and no coffee served at the 10 start time. I found out later that they had 2 staff callouts and the poor guy working for us was normally the dishwashed. Kudos to him for doing his best and I heard it got better in about an hour but we had places to be. I checked out on Sunday and the woman at the desk did not even say hello or ask me how the stay was. I planned to tell her about the broken faucet but I could tell she could barely care about anything, so I got my receipt and left. 2/10 do not recommend. It seemed like all of the staff hated their jobs. That's an unfortunate environment...
