“authentic” is the most overused and misunderstood word in food. i spent 5 years living and working in thailand, experiencing everything from street food to Michelin starred joints, home cooked regional cuisines, coming to the conclusion that authentic really is subjective when it comes to food… i suppose it beautifully is analogous for people also. be that as it may, as long as it tastes good to you, nothing else really matters. So the pad thai i had here, was definitely not the best i’ve had, but it was a decent value, huge portions, bit bland but i think it suits the general gentle taste pallets of westerners. its a 3 star pad thai, but im gonna give 4 because it was a good value. looking forward to coming back to try the curries. i think the location is challenging. downtown honolulu has a long ways to go addressing the homeless population nearby, although im a big fan of not simplifying such a complex problem, it should be noted that its visible, and some folks might not feel safe walking or parking in the streets… but i think its worth braving such feelings since there are tons of great places to eat nearby. so put your ‘bigg boi’ hat on and explore this area.

I recently visited this Thai restaurant, and the atmosphere felt a bit more like a fast-food style place—good for a quick meal rather than a long, sit-down dinner. Good place for lunch. I ordered the drunken noodles, and while they were good, they weren't what I was expecting. Coming from Southern California, where there are a lot of fantastic Thai restaurants, the flavor was a little different from what I'm used to. There were tomatoes and grilled onions, which was a unique touch. The main issue was that the noodles were stuck together and not separated, which was a little odd However, the price was reasonable at $17 out the door, and I appreciated that they served water in a cute cup. The service was excellent; the woman who helped me was incredibly nice and very fast to bring out my food. Overall, it's a solid option for a quick and affordable meal.

Wanted some Thai food, went to go check this place out. I had the pleasure of having Tyler, the cashier/waiter, on his first day. Guy was super nice and patient with me. Ended up getting Chicken Panang Curry, Mango Sticky Rice, and the beef salad. Was so hungry that I forgot to get a picture of the beef salad. Food was delicious and ate everything while sitting outside at their outdoor table. Thank you for the great food and service, Tyler. I wish you and Basil Thai all the best.
