L&L Hawaiian Barbecue — Restaurant in Honolulu

I have been going to the Kahala location and loved their teri chicken. Things have changed. They now serve the worse teri chicken ever! The chicken is way, way over cooked! The chicken is dry, tough, texture like beef Jerky and with very little teri sauce if any. I have mentioned this to the clerk today and expected a better experience, again, as I sit here eating my plate, the chicken is dry, tough, way over cooked or was warmed up to many times, some parts I spat out as it was dry stringy and chewy. It could not be broken down to swallow or I would have choked! I discarded it. No teri sauce at all. Although I live across the street from the Kahala location, I will be going to the Kaimuki, Waialae store. The teri chicken is very tender; juicy, tasty and they put teri sauce on the meat. Food is ok, but the service is terrible. I try to support small businesses by eating out as often as I can. The last 3 times, it was same result. The food was ok and the service was terrible. I also went when it wasn’t really busy. I found another L&L BBQ that is cheaper and they give larger portions. And, the service is a lot better.

The one positive is it’s in a great location. But, there are a lot of other L&L BBQ locations that provide better specials, have larger portions and the customer service is a lot better.

Also, if I’m not mistaken, L&L BBQ are independently owned. You just need to shop for the right L&L BBQ because not all serve the same specials and not all have the same quality in...

I had the garlic shrimp healthy plate. The shrimp were left with the peeling on, and slathered in garlic oil sauce. They came with brown rice which was very overcooked and undercooked all at once. It seems like two different batches were mixed such that some rice was absolute mush, and others were crunchy in the centers. The accompanying salad was just lettuce and the only available dressing was ranch. My guest had a chicken plate. The chicken was acceptable, but not spectacular. It needed more sauce or seasoning.
