Machete’s Mean Sandwiches — Restaurant in Honolulu

Just as I explained with the downtown shop, my worst nightmare came true. They replaced capicola with big HUGE slices of ham. I preferred this place over the DT location, despite their never having White bread in the early afternoon (we order from here 2-3 times a week and I have only gotten white bread a single time; heller? Make more white bread if you run out EVERY day! I hate wheat!). I only dislike one lunch meat and meat period and this is ham. Hate ham. Think it is absolutely disgusting. Despise ham and even on Easter make lamb because I hate ham so much. On top of this, the ham was so horribly fat that it kept stopping me from being able to bite into my sandwich. Foul. I dont care that you're out of something, but if I'm paying for a much more expensive meat and you are out of it, do NOT put mother friggin HAM on...

I've patronize this place twice now. The first experience was very good. Service was great and the sandwich was good. The second visit I had an issue with the service- the young man that helped me on my second visit I specifically told him no mayo. As he begins to put mayo on the sandwich I reminded him that I did not want mayo. He then tried to bargain with me that since he only put a little bit, I should be OK with it so he didn't have to throw the bread away. That is not my problem. When a customer ask for a specific sandwich, do not try to bargain with them to change their mind. I do love that sometimes they will have small loaves of fresh baked bread available for sale. Sandwiches were real good but they were out of capicola...we only found out because we asked if we could have it as a substitute/extra. They told us they've just been using ham as a substitute...the next customer ordered a sandwich that included this and was not informed, which, in my mind is terrible customer service and a lack of transparency. At least inform me and let me decide from there. The bread was amazing, baked right there in front, soft, and thick (I dont care for too much bread but this was airy enough that I did not mind the thickness).
