Why is this two brother doing inside a Chinatown produce market? I hope soon they will move closer to downtown, so the downtowner will have a chance to taste their awesome creation. I usually order the half ahi (tuna) and half hamachi. Hawaiian style (with seaweed) or spicy. The portion is smaller than Vegetable and Ahi (in Fort Street Mall) but the quality is great to compensate. I'm sure to come back with friends for this hole in wall gem.
To the owner: From my observation while waiting for my food, I can see there is way to improve your efficiency for a quicker turn around. Just mount a web cam and watch yourself work for an hour. By just re-organizing the rice station, cutting station and POS can reduce cross path situation and gain efficiency. Sometimes downtowner can't wait that extra 5 minutes. Besides, they already spend an extra 15 minutes to walk down here. FYI. Vegetable and Ahi is down to 2 minutes wait. But to be fair, they have 8 people working in the kitchen. Here you have only three. The brothers...
Read moreThe ultimate place for a person who loves both poke and sushi! It was so good that my husband and I ate here twice during our stay in Honolulu. I got the chutoro and spicy ahi poke combination and him the chirashi. We also got a side of traditional Hawaiian style poke. The fish is so fresh and everything is made to order. The Chinatown location is tucked away in the back of a wet market and so it isn't the cleanest place and there can be a bit of a line and a wait during peak lunch hours, but I personally think the food is worth it. If you're taking it to go, you can ask for your food to be packed with ice packs to keep it cold during transit. Compared to Ono's which we also had, Maguro Brother's has sushi options vs. Ono's which is more poke than sushi (although, I preferred Maguro Brother's spicy ahi over Ono's). Both are delicious, but Maguro Brother's is a must stop if you love sushi. There is also another location in downtown Waikiki, but that opens at 5 PM after the shop in Chinatown which closes...
Read moreThis was my first poke experience when I landed. Highly rated and well worth it driving into Chinatown. My cousins and I ordered the ume & shio, mix maguro donburi, chutoro & shoyu and the king salmon combo with a side of uni. Wow everything here was so fresh and buttery. Prices are reasonable. The fish to rice ratio is perfect. Speaking with one of the chefs they get their ingredients locally or through Japan every other day. Its a small location located in a small indoor shopping center with plenty of other food vendors. Lines here are pretty small and they prep your food really quickly. I am really pick with my sushi. The tuna, salmon and uni were definitely fresh. My cousins and I kept talking about Maguro being our favorites. There is outdoor dining right in the center of the shopping center. Parking is limited to street or garage parking. Highly recommend this place if you want qualify poke and better...
