I was looking for a lunch spot in the area and my parents wanted ramen. A comb through my bookmarks showed me Manichi Ramen, recommended by a co-worker, and it did not disappoint. We (party of four) got there on July 4th at 11:45ish and were seated immediately. There was probably one other table dining there and we were far enough away from them, which I appreciated. I guess the trick to dining in without crowds is to come on a holiday.
We started with the karaage, and you can't really go wrong with that. It came out piping hot, crispy, and flavorful. We also got an order of the Garlic Butter Shrimp Gyoza, which seemed to be one of the more popular gyozas. I thought it was only okay. When the menu said garlic butter, I was expecting North Shore garlic shrimp vibes. But sadly, this was not that. Instead, it was more Trader Joe's gyoza vibes with a bunch of scallion and garlic paste on top.
Luckily, the ramen was much better. After I had the curry nikutama over at Marugame Udon, I guess I was on a curry kick because I ended up ordering the creamy curry ramen here and I loved it. The broth was rich and flavorful but not TOO rich. The noodles were also cooked perfectly. Dad had the Volcano Tonkatsu ramen (too spicy for me, but he enjoyed it), and Mom and Hubby both had some variations of the miso (also great, but nothing unique). Overall, everything was pretty great. I liked that they had non-ramen options, such as donburi and udon. So if you have someone in your party who isn't really feeling ramen, there is something for them too. The other gyozas sound interesting too but after the garlic shrimp, I'm a bit skeptical. But that's not enough to stop me from coming back for some more ramen. There was also some special that caught my eye with curry/tomato/rice/meat, I don't really remember but they already...
Read moreNot a family friendly place at all. The manager, Chris Jon can be so hostile to a mom and child and come off very unprofessional. I was looking forward to coming here with my family. My toddler had an accident in the parking lot. I changed and rinsed him off in the parking lot. Then, I had my child sit on a chair outside of the restaurant where is safe and cars are not driving by, and I rinsed his feet and shoes with a bottle water before stepping inside the restaurant. The manager was sitting outside the whole time and saw me struggling. He also saw me walk around the side of the building to look for a water hose but didn't find one. Instead of asking if I'm okay or if there's anything he can do to help, he berated me. He was scolding at us saying, "you can't do this here yo". I apologized profusely and even offered to clean up. I didn't think it was a big deal at the time because it's just water on the cement floor outside and with the heat, it will dry off quickly. I can understand your concern but there's no need to be so hostile and rude to a mom and a young child. It's really disturbing to see a manager can be this unprofessional by consistently saying "Yo" with every sentence and being belligerent with a young child and apologetic mother. Truly lack human decency and absolutely no aloha. My family went inside and ordered food already so at the end we just got it to go. The food was also super salty. No wonder the restaurant was empty. I will not recommend and will...
Read moreI always come back to Manichi Ramen with my friends. It is good comfort food and they have a multitude of flavor broths to choose from. I have not tried them all but the miso variants are my favorite. The noodles were cooked a little past al dente but still delicious nonetheless. I reckon the pre set specials are a better bang for your buck as they come with toppings such as the bamboo shoots, seaweed and egg. They also have their gyoza, which are handmade to perfections. You can choose different toppings to add on top to boost the flavor or you can stick to the original, either way they’re delicious. The last time I had the gyoza, I had the cheesy gyoza, where they would add a layer of cheese on top of the gyoza. If you do get the cheesy gyoza, make sure you consume them quickly. The melty cheese adds a gooey texture to the gyoza. If you wait too long the melty cheese will solidify. The flavor is still enhanced from the cheese but the texture will not be the same.
Service was excellent, I am one that drinks a lot of water during meals, so the waiter always came by and made sure to fill up my cup.
Overall, it most definitely worth trying out Manichi Ramen. They serve tasty ramen with different flavors of broth and have...
