I want to preface this that growing up eating from lots of mom and pop establishments in Hong Kong and Southern California (626), I don’t expect good service from Chinese restaurants as long as the food is good and is at a reasonable price.
That said, I’ve been here twice because it’s close by, once for lunch and once just to ask for a takeout menu. Lunch, got their lunch plate and ordered roast duck to go like my parents have done from these types of places many times. The lunch plate was sub-par and was just reheated food from the back, with the vegetables freshly cooked and just alright. The lady seemed to make some snide comments about the fact that I came in to dine alone. Roast duck to go was decent, would get it again.
Second time tonight going in to just pick up a to go menu is why I’m writing this review. I walk in and ask, and she asks me if I’m ordering now, I say no. She finds a paper menu for me, and as I’m walking out she makes another snide comment like “we have a website” but of course in Chinese as if I can’t hear her say it. I got really annoyed by this because this is the second time now that this lady has made snide comments to me. It’s really a shame, because it made me realize being contemptful of customers is such a easy way to lose customers. Especially because I can easily do a Google search and find three higher-rated restaurants close by. Your restaurant doesn’t even show up on Google Maps! Don’t be talking to me about websites. I’d rather even go to Panda Express across the street than be treated so disrespectfully!
I don’t really care if you provide great service, but disrespect is such a dealbreaker. So many other Cantonese restaurants around are better than you - I have a car and delivery services now - so you’ve lost my...
Read moreBest cake noodles around! Love this restaurant’s cake noodles. Yes, sometimes it isn’t perfect, yes, sometimes the English by the staff sounds rude, but the food is always delicious and a decent value.
It’s my go to Cantonese restaurant for all of the basics, especially the minute chicken cake noodle. The noodle is crunchy, but not too dense and never burned. The chicken is always well cooked and well sauced. I prefer my sauce to be thinner and on the less rather than more side to avoid getting soggy. On On gets exactly right for me. And I like that it isn’t too salty.
I also really like the fish filet with green onions and ginger. I’m sure it’s a previously frozen fillet, but the sauce tastes fresh and ginger laden. The green onions aren’t over cooked and have good flavor.
I don’t know why all those single review reviewers all had such a bad experience, but I suspect they must have caught the staff on a bad day or ordered the wrong things, which can happen at so many restaurants especially if you have only been able to review a...
Read moreLeonard's Bakery is a Portuguese bakery in Honolulu, known for the famous malasada. Around 8:40pm today, we (two families with seven people) planned to buy some for the kids. Right across a quiet narrow street, I saw a half empty small little plaza, so turned in and parked my car (Honda Odyssey) in one of the four empty slots, in front of a Chinese restaurant called “On On Chinese Restaurant”. Two minutes after I parked the car, a gentleman, looks like the owner, walked out. I said “Hi” to him in Chinese with smile and told him that we would leave in a few minutes. The gentleman walked in saying nothing. Two more minutes later, a middle-aged woman came out with long face and told me “drive away, park in other place!” I did so.
We came back from a Lu’au next to a beach, and were thinking to have some warm and light Chinese vegetable soup. On On could be the right place if the parking lot conversation did not happen.
This in not a good...
