Ramen-Ya Hawaii Kai — Restaurant in Honolulu

Had dinner at Ramen Ya in Hawaii Kai. Nice, clean restaurant, fast, friendly service.

We got the 'set' meals of wonton and miso ramen soup, both with 4 gyoza and mochico chicken sides. The mochico (fried with sweet rice flour) chicken was crispy and good came with sides of a scoop of rice and mac salad. A lot of food for $14.95.

The wonton soup broth was very tasty, not too salty. The wonton wrappers were thin and some fell apart and had very little filling. The miso ramen had perfectly cooked, al dente, delicious noodles. The miso broth had good miso flavor but for me was way too salty. I am used to lower sodium miso paste when I make it at home. The 2 pork slices in our soup were dry and chewy.

The gyoza was simply delicious, some of the best we've ever had. Soft yet chewy wrappers, juicy fun pork + filling. The mac salad was good, tasty but too much mayo. We both ate it anyway. 🙂

Just went there earlier. Sat down, ordered 2 ramen and ate. That all. I didn’t tip per there were no effort of service exerted except upon bringing the food. Thank them and I left the store.Then the waitress chased after me and ask for tip as she said it is “MANDATORY to give her a tip.” I was just flabbergasted and then told her tipping is optional but she still proceeded that “I SHOULD TIP HER.” She didn’t let me go until I gave her a tip. Never going back to that place anymore. TIPPING...

We came during happy hour & got 4 free gyozas with each entree! The portion sizes are massive. It was hard to choose what to get. I ended up ordering the Spicy Seafood Ramen. My kids got the Chicken Katsu Ramen and the Crispy Seafood Noodles. My sister orders the Black Garlic Ramen. I will be ordering it next time! It was delicious.
