As someone who has been stationed in Hawaii for almost a year, I’ve had the chance to explore the islands and their incredible culinary diversity. But there was always one thing missing: a truly authentic Mexican taco experience. After countless food trucks, restaurants, and recommendations, I had almost given up hope, that was until I stumbled upon this very taco truck.
Let me set the scene. It was a Monday afternoon (Cinco de Mayo) after an uneventful weekend, and I was driving back from base, craving something that reminded me of home. That’s when I saw it: a small, unassuming taco truck just minutes away from my university with a sign that said CINCO DE MAYO. From afar I could see a line of people who clearly knew something I didn’t. I decided to stop, and it turned out to be the best decision I’ve made in months.
The moment I bit into their asada taco (steak), I was transported. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked to melt-in-your-mouth perfection, topped with fresh cilantro, onions, and a squeeze of lime that tied it all together. The handmade corn tortillas were soft, slightly charred, and had that authentic flavor you only get from someone who knows the craft.
Then I tried their chicken tacos, and let me tell you, they are life-changing. The chicken was rich and flavorful; something many of the other taco restaurants I had tried before failed to achieve. Absolute magic. It was the kind of food that makes you pause mid-bite just to savor the moment.
What sets this place apart isn’t just the quality of the food; it’s the love and authenticity behind it. For anyone stationed here, living here, or even visiting Hawaii, this taco truck isn’t just a place to eat, it’s an experience. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit. If you’ve been searching for authentic Mexican tacos in Hawaii, stop looking....
Read moreI had such high hopes, having lived on this island for 10 years I have always struggled to find any good Mexican food. We ordered 2 burritos with the chicken plus guac and sour, also 2 tacos with chicken as well. The burritos were filled with literally WHITE rice, having grown up eating Mexican food and being from California maybe my expectations are too high, but never would I expect WHITE rice with literally no seasoning whatsoever. And that’s what the burritos were mostly filled with, there was supposed to be pico, literally was impossible to find hints of any pico. The sour and guac that was charged extra was only in the first couple bites then nothing. The chicken itself had no flavor and just tasted a bit off. The tacos were better but since the chicken was not seasoned well I had to dump the spicy salsa over everything I ate to just get through it. Even with the local discount, which we appreciate, the total was still like $45. I hate to leave a bad review but I just couldn’t understand how it was this bad seeing all the other reviews. The aunty that took our order was very sweet and nice. So I give 5 stars for the service, but for a food truck specifically I will never return for just service if the food is that bad an unexpected, we were so excited because the reviews, pictures and claims of being all authentic and fresh. Unfortunately would never recommend to anyone. I don’t leave reviews often but was just so...
Read moreWe called our order in it was gonna be 20 minutes so when we got to the truck they asked us to wait we waited another 15 minutes we saw our order in the window we thought it was ours. It sat there and sat there and sat there and sat there and sat there and sat there and sat there. We finally asked them if our order was going to be coming out since we called it in over 40 minutes ago and she said oh it’s right here. Yep that was it part two very expensive for what we got My Son ordered a chimichanga with chicken lots of beans but no chicken I didn’t know. Beans were in a chimichanga. I’m from Texas. I’ve never had that. The fish tacos were OK nothing special wanted me to upgrade for beans and rice. I don’t know what kind of rice that was but it was disgusting and it sure wasn’t Spanish rice not to mention it was all cold because it was sat in the window for 15 minutes nobody paid attention to us. I see some of the reviews are all good but this was not my experience and $44 later, Without even a jalapeño to dress it or give it an extra flair I won’t be returning. Good luck with your repeat customers. no thank you I will never buy anything from them. Better Mexican food in my kitchen, but a fraction of the...
