Wow... I didn't know what makes a Great Sub sandwich until I ate their "Manhattan" Sub here!! We were just passing through last Friday on our way to Mt. Hood and were looking for a good sandwich. When we saw the high ratings & reviews here, we had to check them out. The "Manhattan" was recommended by the cashier, and has salami, ham, and provolone cheese on their Super fresh-n-soft white rolls, that can hold All the good Fixings. They offer 4", 8" or 16" long Subs for every appetite, or to share. The rolls are sooo Wide (about 4") there's lots of room for the Meats/Cheese and the works (shredded lettuce, slices of tomato, pickle, banana peppers, and topped with a splash of oil & vinegar.
What made this THE Best Sub sandwich I've Ever Tasted was the way they lightly cooked the meat on there grill and put the cheese on the meat to warm and semi-melt before putting them on the sandwich! The roll was Not toasted, but the meat & cheese were heated on the grill and were warm in the sub... it was all Simply Delicious. This shop is very small, off the main drag a little, and it's Take-out oriented, but has several covered tables just outside. It is definitely worth the short drive a few blocks NW of downtown Hood River... to New York City Sub...
Read moreI absolutely love NYC sub shop in Bend and Redmond (at least one of the two are always a "must stop" when we're in Central Oregon), so I was excited to try the Hood River location. It was definitely disappointing. I ordered a Brox sandwich (your basic turkey sandwich), and was never asked if I wanted it heated or not. It was served heated, which I'm not a fan of. Next, I found they had put bacon on it. Don't get me wrong- I love bacon, but there's a time and place for it. Unfortunately, I didn't realize either of these things until I was back on the freeway. My destination was still several hours away, and I needed to get to get there soon so I didn't go back. If they were busier the day I stopped in I would have thought I was just given the wrong order, but there was no one else there, so I think it was just inattention. I tried to stop back by a couple days later (on my way back to the valley), but they were closed due to weather. When we're in Central Oregon, I will 100% go back to the NYC sun shops, but I think I will skip Hood River. If you go, make sure to check your order before...
Read moreIf I could put zero stars I would, clearly do not come here right before closing. Showed up 15 minutes before closing, they already didn’t look happy about us walking in because she was already cleaning her grill. So we ordered, yes I made a mistake and roast beef instead of cheesesteak, but I promptly told them I meant cheesesteak, the girl on the grill looks over and says, “uh....it’s the same thing”, I said one is roast beef and one is cheesesteak, she continued to cook what I had already told I did not want. The guy that took our order then continues to try to convince me that roast beef was better and has more flavor. I was speechless. At any point they could of told me they would have to charge me more to make what I wanted, but they simply refused. Our food was on that grill as long as it took to get our fountain drink. They give us our food and we get to car, our cheese isn’t even melted. We love this place, we drove from the Dalles to eat here but the customer service was horrendous!! Update.... Owner did reach out to us and made it right. Totally appreciate the owner and we...
