Today I was recommended by a local business owner to come to the sixth street bistro. He told us the burgers and drinks were great sadly, myself and my business partner didn’t even get that far.
Upon entering the building we immediately felt judge and unwelcome. It seemed as if we didn’t fit the mold and we didn’t know why? We aren’t hasteful to judge a business at the front door but, we should have.
We were seated by what seemed to be a disgruntled hostess who refused to make eye contact either of us. When I said thank you she didn’t respond. Luckily a very nice server came to our aid asked us if we wanted drinks and was polite. She was busy and headed downstairs and to help other customers. While the hostess chatted about personal matters with a patron.
My water went empty and unfilled while the server was busy and the other girl gabbed. It was empty a good 10 mins before finally I spun my cup in my hand to draw attention to the fact that there was nothing in my cup. To her credit the hostess paused her important conversation and attended to her job and my glass. Once again she didn’t look at us she didn’t speak with us and she ignored thank you for a second time.
At this point I knew she had a problem with us. At first I felt it was my race and the fact that I’m tattooed but then I realized she was giving the same body language to me and my business partner who is white. So we agreed she must be sexist and not wanting to engage with males. We came to this conclusion due to the fact she was not only checking on other tables which were female but she was speaking with them and responding to them as well.
I will never return to this establishment and I do not recommend anyone else to either. I have worked in the food service industry before and all things aside you do not ignore your customer and make them feel uncomfortable and expect them to stay very long. So we did just that we told them to cancel our order and left.
If you wish to feel like you are from out of town and enjoy feeling like you don’t exist this is definitely the...
Read moreReally, really great place! We went here for a girls night, the night before my best friend got married at the Columbia Gorge hotel, and it was a nice time. Really nice atmosphere and nice place. Clean place. Prices are....okay. A little too pricey, but the MOST AFFORDABLE place by far in comparison to every other restaurant in Hood River. Lots of people there for drinks, lots of local people. Seated promptly. My friends had the Pad Thai, and they are Thai food enthusiasts. They do NOT recommend it, that is if you are expecting a regular kind of Pad Thai. They said it was a little off due to the rice put under it, slightly excessive since it's a noodle dish. I had the Salmon fillet burger, and that was good. Nothing special. My friend had the ...something pear salad pictured and LOVED IT, she really looooooved it. Now, service for us was subpar, at best. I had a Coke and it got refilled ONCE. We were there for over an hour and it got filled right before we were ready to leave. That's kind of how I decide whether service is good or not, and it left me feeling lacking. But the artichoke dip we had ( I think it was that) was AMAZINGGGGG and the bread...
Read moreThis should be the busiest restaurant in Hood River. Between your choice of 2 shaded patios and upstairs or downstairs indoor seating, there is no shortage of intimate options for your dinner companion(s). The quality of the food you get for the price is crazy good. We've done the date night thing as well as the 'two kids two adults' vibe, and both work - just choose which seating area makes the most sense.
My only knock is their leniency toward dogs. One guest thought it was appropriate to serve their dog food out of the same plate the restaurant uses to serve their guests- Hood River seems to like their dogs, but this was a bit much - let's point to the dog owner, rather than the resturant itself.
Despite this, we continue to enjoy the ambiance and food, as it's as good as any restaurant in the area. If you're finding the waterfront scene too busy and touristy, walk or drive to...
