I found this beautiful restaurant online while looking for biscuits and chicken and waffles. It is located in a very old brick building that is filled with other businesses. I love how they kept the charm of the past but updated the interior with modern furniture and color.
As soon as we walked in we were greeted by amazing smells. Everyone was so happy and the cashier who took our order was very nice. You order at the front counter and they give you a device that alerts them where you are located so they can bring your food. It is very convenient.
We weren't sure what to get but we started with the order of biscuits and you had your choice of jam. We got blueberry, and it also came with a nice soft butter. My husband loves chicken and waffles and since that is what they are known for he opted for that. For my entree I got the bagels and lox. She asked what kind of bagel I wanted, which was nice and I chose an everything bagel because those are my favorite. For my drink I chose water and my husband got the coffee. He was quite impressed from the get go with the coffees freshness and said it was a great start. We also go a banana nut muffin to go for later since we figured we'd be full from this meal.
The biscuits came to the table first. I took a bite with nothing on it and it was pretty dry. It was fine with the accompaniment of butter and jelly but not my favorite. I was not going to let that sour my meal as everyone has off days. Our entrees came out next. When they placed that chicken and waffles in front of my husband he was so excited. My everything bagel and lox were so beautifully plated. My old self was in love. I quickly started fixing my topping and took a bite. The fish was so fresh. The cream cheese was absolutely creamy and the bagel was phenomenal. There was nothing I did not like about my dish. It was perfect. I managed to snagged a bit of waffle and chicken from my husband and I definitely know why they are known for them. It was everything it should be and more. There was a little spice on the back end which complimented the dish perfectly. We scarfed our food down and we were happy and satisfied. The wait staff walks around and fills the coffee. Water is complimentary and self serve. We had a great time.
Oh yes and the banana Nut muffin was out of this world! I didn't eat in until we were back in San Antonio and I'm kicking myself for not buying more pastries to bring home. All in all we enjoyed ourselves very much and will...
Read moreDandelion is a local brunch chain in Houston, and they recently just opened their latest location in the Heights.
We visited this location, as it was close to our home. Like most parking in the Heights, it was very limited but were lucky that a car was leaving.
We got the bourbon iced latte, breakfast taco with chorizo, chicken and waffles, and blueberry lemon curd french toast stix.
The chicken and waffles and blueberry lemon curd french toast stix were my two favorite dishes! The chicken was crispy on the outside, pairing well with the soft cornbread buttermilk waffle. The maple butter on top of the waffle was a mixture of sweet and savory, and the saltiness from the butter tasted great with the sweetness from the waffle and syrup.
The blueberry lemon curd toast stix came with 6 large stix topped with whipped cream, blueberry compote, and lemon zest. The stix were fluffy but was not overwhelmingly sweet with the blueberry compote. It was zesty and fresh!
The breakfast taco was okay and did not stand out to me particularly. It was smaller than I expected and dry with the sauce on the side, and the sauce was lacking flavor. The coffee was also okay and was more on the watery side.
You order before sitting down, and although there was only about 10-12 people or so in front of us, the line was moving very slowly with only one cashier that takes the order. We waited for about 45-50 minutes despite the line not being long before we were able to order. However, once we sat down the food came out pretty fast at around 15 minutes maximum.
Overall, there was some great dishes, such as the chicken and waffles and french toast stix. I am not really a brunch or breakfast person, but I think the Dandelion Cafe has slightly...
Read moreDecent spot with very friendly staff and clean this 1st visit. Beautiful location but sad to see local shop Kraftsman baking is no longer here.
Prices for food seem fine. Coffee prices are very high. 8oz cup is $4.50, 16 oz is $5.50. if you want them to give you a porcelain cup it is is $6 for bottomless.
Despite very friendly helpful staff doing their best it still had a bit of a commercialized feel to it, and they got my order wrong (no worries here if just once. Notice my service rating is still 5 stars).
That or the maple sausage has a southwestern green chilis type mash in or something not maple like at all. Certainly whatever sausage they gave me felt like it was on the more frugal side in terms of quality but it was honestly fine just not maple in any way whatsoever lol...not bad you know but not high quality which honestly is a fair trade for the price of the sandwich which was $11 for a pretty decent sized, well prepared breakfast sandwich with deliver to your table service.
Overall three stars because the coffee price essentially reflects price gouging. Otherwise it would have been a solid four. Admittedly, I'll probably still return and slowly enjoy my $5 8 oz to go cup coffee with gratitude since I love the location! Pour one out for Kraftsman. Will have to go check out their apparent new...
