A fun upscale dive with a varied and interesting menu. Just be aware that as a rule this place is very spicy. If you don't like eat it spicy make sure and clear each menu item you order with the order taker. Those that understand "The Houston Heights" will appreciate this place's low key upscale ambiance. Those that don't understand will not see it as upscale.

I'll cover the negative first. They overcharged me on two items on my past visit and I hate that. I ordered a nopalitos taco and the printed menu at the restaurant said a flour tortilla would be 50¢ extra but they charged me $1. I pointed that out and at first the cashier said he wouldn't be able to change a price but then he offered to call the manager, but she also said she wouldn't be able to change the price. After a little arguing the manager made good and thanked me for pointing out the mistake on the menu. Oddly all tacos listed on the menu specified an extra dollar for flour tortillas except for the last two tacos, one of which was the nopalitos I ordered. I notice now on the online menu that all tacos specify an extra dollar...but they need to honor whatever prices are printed on their menu. If it's a misprint, a little work with adhesive tape and a sharpie can correct those menus. Not charging people more than the printed price is a basis of our capitalistic society.

What I unfortunately didn't notice is that they also overcharged me $2 for my supreme burrito. The price printed was $9.99 and that's also currently showing on the online menu, but I'm looking at my receipt right now and they charged me $11.98. That just burns me up!!!!

On another note, another basis of our capitalism is that people can charge whatever they want. If someone's willing to pay it, then it's OK. But really, $1 extra upcharge for a flour tortilla????

On yet another note, I'm so sick of these computer run restaurants. What can't be put in to the iPad can't be ordered. Whatever price the iPad says, that's what must be paid. What happened to humans? Problems happen, sometimes prices should be changed. Someone forgot to put on the mushrooms you paid for. Sometimes they're out of corn so they should give you flour for no additional charge.

Switching to the positive, there's a lot to like about this place. It's fun. It's part of a fun Heights restaurant row. It has a nice covered outdoor seating area. The food is good or very good. The price is not bad for an upscale place. The menu is diverse and offers some good stuff that you won't usually find at gringo oriented places, like lengua (beef tongue...recommended although it's not too good here), pozole (pork shoulder soup with hominy, limited time offering and it was good), and nopales (savory tender strips of cactus, recommended). Portions are ample and they have serve your self condiments and drinks.

Overall recommended but don't let them...

The Heights district in Houston has just welcomed a delightful addition to its culinary scene, and it's none other than "The Taco Stand" – a haven for taco enthusiasts seeking an authentic taste of Mexican flavors. From the moment I stepped through the entrance, I knew I was in for a treat that would tantalize my taste buds and satisfy my craving for quality Mexican cuisine.

The star of the show at The Taco Stand is undoubtedly the food. With a menu that boasts an impressive array of taco varieties, each one bursting with flavor and creativity, it's a challenge to choose just one favorite. From the succulent Al Pastor with its perfectly seasoned meat and caramelized pineapple to the zesty Baja Fish that transports you to the coast with every bite, the tacos are a masterpiece in themselves.

The attention to detail in crafting these culinary delights is evident in every aspect – from the freshness of the ingredients to the artful presentation on the plate. The tortillas are made in-house, a testament to the dedication to authenticity, and they provide the perfect canvas to showcase the symphony of flavors within.

What truly sets The Taco Stand apart is their amazing collaboration with Uber. The unbeatable deals available through Uber make enjoying these mouthwatering tacos even more enticing. The convenience of ordering through the app, coupled with the added value of discounts and promotions, makes it a win-win situation for foodies on the go.

But it's not just the food that makes The Taco Stand a must-visit destination. The ambiance and atmosphere of the place are equally inviting. The vibrant colors, rustic decor, and lively energy transport you to the heart of a Mexican street food market. It's an immersive experience that adds to the joy of indulging in the delectable offerings.

As a taco aficionado, I can confidently say that The Taco Stand is a treasure trove of culinary excellence that Houston's Heights district can be proud of. With a menu that pays homage to traditional Mexican flavors while infusing a modern twist, coupled with the unbeatable Uber deals, this taco place is a true gem. Let's taco 'bout The Taco Stand, a humble joint that's mastered the noble art of the breakfast taco. Sure, their menu boasts an array of tantalizing taco options. But if we're being real, their bacon and egg taco, nestled lovingly in a soft flour tortilla and paired with a zingy red salsa, is the morning serenade we all crave.

The Taco Stand sits under a shelter of humble outdoor seating, where the fans whisper sweet breezy nothings to keep the Texan heat at bay. And the abundance of TV screens? Well, they serve a medley of sports with your meal, turning every bite into a sideline spectacle.

But the real magic happens at 6am. That's when their drive-thru opens, bestowing upon us the gift of early-morning, pre-work sustenance. While there, why not add a secret French vanilla iced coffee to your order? Just a clandestine caffeinated delight to savor before facing the world... or your family at home.

When it comes to prices, The Taco Stand isn't trying to empty your pockets, just fill your stomach. Their quick service is like a well-rehearsed salsa dance, swift, smooth, and satisfying. And let's not forget cleanliness. They keep their place so spotless you could eat off the floor - although, with their tasty tacos, why would you want to?

In short, The Taco Stand is a place where the humble taco is king and queen, the iced coffee is secretly delightful, and your morning appetite gets the royal treatment it deserves....

UPDATE: Although this review was left 4 years ago, I wanted to update that, despite the owner Matthew's response under the original review, they never responded to my attempt to contact them. Meh. A very mediocre and overpriced street food meal. We like The Burger Joint, so we thought we would give The Taco Stand a try during its opening week. The service was good, and we were glad that there was a drive-through. It was pretty packed in the restaurant that would make social distancing pretty difficult if we were to go inside and pick up the food. The tacos are $2.50 a piece for corn tortillas, which is 67% higher in price than other taco stands. I guess there's a location/atmosphere premium. We would be okay with that if the tacos came with cilantro and onions like the menu states. Instead, we got sad tacos with only meat. The meats were decent enough, but the tacos lack textures due to the absence of toppings. The nopales taco was especially disappointing without toppings. The supreme burrito was supposed to come with pico de gallo and cream, but neither was in our burrito. The jamaica agua fresca was not fresh and had very little jamaica taste. Maybe these were opening week fails, but we would not recommend The Taco Stand due to the above.

Was really excited about this place opening near our house but disappointed with our first try. We walked over on a sunny Saturday afternoon to find the patio packed so decided to place a to-go order instead. We asked for avocado to be added to our fish tacos but only one came with the avocado and they charged us for both. The menu clearly states that the tacos with meat come with cilantro and onions. We asked for no cilantro on only one taco but none of them showed up with cilantro or onions.. isn't that expected with street tacos? Especially if the menu says so (previous reviews have also complained about this; also seems to be an issue mostly with to-go/ drive through orders). We mentioned we wanted elote but it wasn't in the bag- thankfully they didn't charge us for it so perhaps they didn't hear- will give them the benefit of the doubt. They had also run out of chocoflan, the only dessert they have on the menu. Will chalk it up to the recent opening; if they sort out the kinks and pay attention to their orders, this place has great potential. The meats tasted good and I liked the pickles we picked from the side cart. I am willing to give them another try but perhaps in a few weeks so hopefully they would have upped their game by then..
