Houston’s restaurant scene is an ever- changing phenomenon and with so much population growth, a new restaurant can pop up at any time, in any place. Some restaurants go for the unusual theme to make themselves stand out, but others stick more to basics, focusing on the food and serving food made from scratch in a home- like setting. A good example of the latter is Elliot’s Table.
This restaurant has a small interior that seats about 30 people and an outdoor patio on the side, holding about 20 additional people. There is a single television set on the wall and music plays continuously in the background, with an assortment of tunes that are widely varied. The smaller interior and tables and chairs provide a home- like atmosphere that is pleasant and appealing.
With the food, Elliot’s Table serves seafood and American food options. The menu is shorter than those of other restaurants, which is good because it makes it less overwhelming and easier to decide on something to eat. Oysters, shrimp, steak, ribs, salads, and other food options are available, plus there are several appetizers and desserts. Wine is a popular option and they also serve a good number of craft beers. The beer is offered either bottled or canned. There are no taps for draft beer, at least not yet.
I visited Elliot’s Table with my wife and we sampled several foods, including assorted bread as an appetizer followed by oysters, ribs, and other foods, plus chocolate cake and pecan pie for dessert. We liked most every food we tried and you could certainly taste the home- cooked love in every bite. The food is made from scratch and is quite tasty and wholesome. Another nice change of pace is the relative quiet. Because it is smaller, you don’t get the excessive noise like you do at other restaurants. This means you can sit back and carry on a good conversation while you eat.
Elliot’s Table is a nice restaurant that I can see growing and expanding into something much larger. The tasty food, attentive service, wine and beer selection, and cozy surroundings make Elliot’s Table a restaurant you want to visit for your next dinner or Sunday lunch/brunch. It doesn’t seek to impress with an overdone theme and it’s not overwhelming like other restaurants, and these facts make it a...

Location: Located outside of Houston Heights in a chill area. They have an outdoor area and we were seated there. It was great because it wasn't too hot.
Service: I didn't ask our waiter's name but he was great. He gave us wine and food recomendations, always very attentive.
Food: We were a party of 8 so we ordered 3 appetizers for the table and a dish for each of us. We had the Thai Chili Ribs, The Gorgonzola Crispy Sprouts and The Portuguese Octopus. They were all great! 10 out of 10 for the 3 appetizers. If you have to choose one, I will do the Gorgonzola Crispy Sprouts. As far as food, my wife and I had the NY Strip Dinner and the Dry Aged Duck. For the main entrees it took a while to get to the table but it was worth the wait. Both dishes came with Roasted Vegetables seasoned with spices. Great flavor and crispy. The NY strip was perfectly cooked and it was tendered and juicy. As far as the Duck, I don't eat Duck but my wife does and she said literally it was the best duck she have ever tried. The portions are generous. I had a small box to take home what I didn't eat.
Drinks: They have a wide variety of wines but I am a beer guy so I had a local Love Street beer.
Price: As I mentioned we were a party of 8 so our bill was close to $500 including tip (we tipped 20%) and we had 1 bottle of wine and several glasses. I would say is fair to say it somewhere in the range of $40 to $50 per person.
I loved this place. I might come back in the future while...
Read moreTo be fair, this is a small crammed place with limited seating, so the rather large group that was there was much louder than it would have been at a normal restaurant. I do think this large party was affiliated with the owner or manager of the place, but that’s my hunch since he was friendly with them; he never came to our table, only theres.
Nonetheless, if you’re looking for a relaxing quiet place to enjoy dinner this wouldn’t be your place. That being said, the servers were very friendly and did apologize a number of times for how loud the party was.
The food: the Chilli and shrimp taro appetizer we thought was very good, rich in flavor and cooked well. For our 2 entrees, my girlfriend’s steak was cooked rare instead of medium as requested and did not have much flavor. We reluctantly did not send it back because typically when that happens it would come back well done and we definitely didn’t want that. The Chicken Parm was good but nothing spectacular, pesto pasta slightly undercooked and not sure how I felt about the pesto sauce; preference. Perhaps the cooks were rushing to get plates out given the large party? Overall, It’s a decent place that I’m sure can’t hit it out of the park on any given day, we may have just gone on...
